The Takashi Murakami retrospective at The Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles is the most comprehensive, in-depth look to date, of the artist's entire career. The exhibit includes work from the early days up until now, with a few new pieces, as well as a new animated movie.
The opening night party was apparently a Hollywood who's who event, with entertainment provided by Kanye West. NotCot has a look at the party swag. MediaBostro is offended by the swag already being available on eBay (although for an artist who intentionally blurs the line between art and consumerism, I think it's appropriate). The LA Times wonders if Murakami's best years are behind him (agreed), and E Online reports that Jeffrey Katzenburg is trying to lure him to Dreamworks.
