Parwana

The earlier post about Hatt-Baby led me into one of those spirals on YouTube, where you click and click and end up watching something you've never seen before that just takes you by surprise.

And so it was with "Parwana". Six mesmerizing minutes of Kurdish music, that just has me asking so many questions - are those ponytails they are waving? How old is that little boy and why does this creep me out so much? Is it because those guys gyrate behind him or is it because they're in the woods?

Is it just me or does this have a whole "Deliverance' vibe? As my friend CC said when I showed it to him: "Wonder how you say 'you've got a purty mouth' in kurdish".

This is nothing - you should rock on with the most famous kurdish singer Ibrahim Tatlises . He lives in Turkey and he is rather popular thru-out the region. My fav video is ?v=BhR_VFGcd-8 on youtube. Make sure you hear OMG at the end

Congrats to Bruce Campbell and his big glue-on mustache for another fine performance!

1995 is to 2008 as Macarena is to Parwana. You read it here first on YBNBY. Start learning it now so that you look smooth while everyone else is falling over themselves trying to learn it, as you nonchalantly say "Oh, that, yeah, I've been hip to Parwana since last year."

omg, this is ALMOST as good as the "afghan beat box" - search it on youtube. that one also uses my name, parwana. and yes, my name is parwana and "pari jaan" is the endearing nickname used by friends/family, as sung by this moustached gentleman :P
