Get in the holiday spirit with a Patrick Swayze Christmas.
"Margot at the Wedding" **1/2 (out of four): Noah Baumbach's squirm-inducing, pleasingly catty film is likely to entice viewers ā almost in spite of itself.

Nicole Kidman is no stranger to playing disturbed, conniving characters ("To Die For") and Noah Baumbach has a knack for writing/directing them ("The Squid and the Whale"). "Margot at the Wedding" brings these two talents together for this squirm-inducing yet pleasingly catty film, which is likely to entice viewers ā almost in spite of itself.
Over at Neatorama, there's a post on this week's Supreme Court review of the 2nd amendment right to bear arms (the amendment's first review in 70 years). Specifically, the Court will decide whether the District of Columbia has the right to ban handguns. But in doing so, the main issue will be whether the Second Amendment protects an individual's right to own guns or the collective right of states to maintain militias.
I mention this because the dozens of comments after the post make for some very interesting reading. I learned a long time ago that next to Oprah fans, gun lovers are some of the most passionate people you'll ever meet, and they don't disappoint in this comments section. Particularly disturbing are the people describing the right to own weapons in case there's a need to rise up against the government...fun stuff. The anti-gun contingent has quite a few posts as well, which makes for some entertaining back and forth.
I also thought I'd ask the YesBut crew...are you for guns, or agin 'um. Usually, I think our crowd swings to the left of center, but with the firepower issue, all bets are off. Ever since I dated this fairly liberal, "Manhattan born and bred" woman who kept wanting to take me to the west side gun club to fire off a few rounds, I've learned this is a much broader phenomenon then I realized. So, where do you stand?
Sorry...I just really liked the headline
You really don't need an explanation for this. It's Japanese TV.
