And now - a behind the scenes look at something I'm working on in my day job.
I'm quite a sucker for reality TV. I remember getting all amped up about Survivor before the first season, and reveling in how smart Richard Hatch was. Then my fixation transferred to Will Kirby, the evil Doctor from Big Brother. (Many of you remember I was a contestant on Big Brother Second Life). Lately I've been watching the OCD compulsions of Jeff Lewis on Flipping Out and wondering why he doesn't get Purel Hand Sanitizer to sponsor the show ("Are those hands REALLY clean?"). Which is why I am pretty excited to be involved with a project that combines reality TV, web and tech.
I'm part of a team working with Verizon FiOS, to create our own combination online/TV reality show called "My Home 2.0". It's a tech-upgrade show, where families are picked for a complete upgrade of their home, including things like high speed FiOS network, home theater, state-of-the-art gaming systems, etc. Which probably just got the male half of the readers here salivating like sad puppies. The whole thing is flimed, and then the show is going to air on TV, and online in the next months. So if you're picked, you get your technology wet dreams come true, and become a YouTube star in the process.
And the makeover is unveiled at a street-wide block party that anyone can attend and be filmed at. The next one is happening this Saturday in Philadelphia. The last one was a lot of fun - James Earl Jones showed up, and we had head-to-head Guitar Hero showdowns. I was idly thinking about driving to Philly on Saturday to attend myself if any YBNBY readers wanted to meetup. If you're thinking of coming, let me know, and I'll make the trip.
We still need to find some families in the Pittsburgh area, so if that's you, read up on how to apply. Or just come along to the event on Saturday and audition.
In the meantime - anyone here already have FiOS? I actually don't have it at home and I'm thinking of upgrading (from DSL) so any thoughts/insights would be appreciated.
What the hell is going on with this 80's TV show Matt Houston? Don't ask, just enjoy. Oh, and there's more goodies like this at TV Carnage.
