The first time I played Grand Theft Auto III, the violence took me back. I never considered myself ultra sensitive to violence, but the amount of it in the game was overwhelming ... at first. I soon got used to it. Very used to it. I found myself having sex with prostitutes and then killing them and taking their money. I'd drive my car onto crowded sidewalks just to hear the people scream.
Luckily, the lifestyle of Grand Theft Auto never made its way into my personal life. I remained a well-adjusted individual upholding the laws with a solid moral compass. But there was always a part of me that wanted to be IN the game. Today, I got my chance.
This isn't what you're thinking. Don't turn on the news expecting to see a crazed Marketing stooge running amok in the Meatpacking District with a chainsaw. But if I'm lucky and you're lucky, you might just hear my voice on the Fall release of Grand Theft Auto IV.
Those of you familiar with the game series know that the radio is featured prominently throughout. Switching between stations, you can listen to country, hard-core, or talk radio while creating chaos. Today, my inbox had a message from WKTT Radio, asking if my "voice wanted to be heard." It really didn't, but I thought I'd investigate further.
WKTT is a fake radio station in the upcoming game but it'll feature real people, with real opinions, calling into the program. Whether or not my rant on the need for a giant wall to be constructed around perimeter of the country to keep those damned ostriches out will make the final cut remains to be seen.
