Hulk really really angry (no, really)!
1970s muscle cars!
A hapkido/surfing love story!
Tank Girl gets some new clothes!
Apokolips!

I'm sorry I haven't had the time to do these previews for the past month or so. It's too bad because some really amazing comics came out that I never got a chance to tell you about. But there's no point in dwelling on the past, let's plow ahead to the present and see what are the 5 most interesting comics and graphic novels that come out today.

5. WORLD WAR HULK
Written by GREG PAK
Penciled by JOHN ROMITA JR.
48 pgs | $3.99

When last we spoke about new comics, I previewed World War Hulk: Prologue and now, though it seems like it's already been going on forever, the real World War Hulk mini-series is actually beginning. This is Marvel's big event for the summer which will cross over into more titles than you can afford to buy. But this is the heart of the story and it features some great looking art from John Romita Jr. If you don't know already, the Hulk got shot off into space about a year ago by some of the other Marvel heroes and after a few tragic mishaps he's back and about as pissed off as he's ever been.

4. RE-GIFTERS
Written by Mike Carey; Art and cover by Sonny Liew and Marc Hempel
176pg. | $9.99

DC's new line of manga-sized graphic novels aimed at teenage girls gets it's second release with Re-gifters. It's a romance book about a Korean girl competing in a hapkido tournament who falls for a surfer boy. Obviously it's hard to be a martial arts champion when you're stupid in love.

3. BLACK DIAMOND
Written by Larry Young; art by John Proctor
32 pgs | $2.95

More than 50 years after 9/11 air travel has been completely banned the government built an 8-lane superhighway from San Fran to DC called The Black Diamond. Before long it all went in the direction of Mad Max. This is the dangerous world of Larry Young's new mini-series from his own publishing outfit, AIT-PlanetLar. If you love 70's muscle cars (I mean come on, should I also ask you if you enjoy breathing?) then this book would be at the top of your list.

2. TANK GIRL: THE GIFTING #1
Written by Alan Martin; art by Ashley Wood
$3.99

After a very long absence, Tank Girl is making her way back to comics but this isn't your punk rock mama's Tank Girl. Co-creator Alan Martin has teamed with artist Ashley Wood to give a new updated look to the Aussie rebel that was famously drawn by Jaime Hewlett back in the '80s. The punk chic has been replaced with Bonnie & Clyde chic, granny dresses and librarian outfits. But there's still kangaroos and guns.

1. JACK KIRBY FOURTH WORLD OMNIBUS VOL.1
Written by Jack Kirby; Art and cover by Kirby and Vince Colletta
396pgs | $49.99

Jack Kirby is pretty well known as the guy who co-created half of the Marvel Universe but he also has an interesting if curious body of work from his time at DC and it's all being collected in four $50 volumes. The books Kirby created back in the 70's like The New Gods, Mister Miracle and The Forever People have always had their cult followers but DC has been paying a lot of tribute to them throughout their regular titles lately so it's a fitting time to give them the hardcover treatment. Check out Darkseid, Granny Goodness and Superman's pal Jimmy Olsen in some action-packed, epic sci-fi classics.

Thanks for bringing this back. I was worried you'd scrapped it all together, and it's one of my first stops on Wednesday. Waddaya mean no time for comics!?! Always time for comics.
Planet Hulk was worth the wait (who knows about the money grabbing offshoots thought) and the Jack Kirby book is sooo mine for Father's Day.

Thanks for the comment! It's good to know that this feature has at least a couple of fans. I'll try my best to keep it regular.
