Calling all iTunes/iPod experts! I need some help bending iTunes to my will.
Okay, here's the setup:
I have a stupidly huge music collection, too large for any currently available iPod. I also have a shiny new 160 GB AppleTV, which I love and actually CAN hold all my music (with room to spare).
I want to sync my iPod to a smaller selection of music and I don't want to manually manage the sync. Sounds simple, right?
Previously, I was using the check boxes to manage what went on the iPod, and the "Only sync checked items" option, but the downside is that unchecked songs will not sync to the AppleTV either, and there is no "Only sync checked items" option to turn off with the AppleTV. As an added issue, tracks that aren't checked won't play in shuffle mode, and when iTunes runs into them in a playlist it just stops playing music after the unchecked track. Stupid, I know, but that's what it does.
So I figured the way to solve my problem is to only sync to a select playlist, so I created a single playlist to sync to my iPod, using multiple smart playlists and such to automatically winnow down what goes on the iPod, and then selected "Sync Selected Playlists" and selected that playlist.
Here's my problem -- when I use the select playlist option, that becomes the only playlist that appears on the iPod, and I can't get any of my other playlists show up in the iPod.
When I use the Sync checked songs only method, it would sync all my playlists, and whichever songs were not checked just wouldn't be on the iPod, but the playlists would still transfer with the songs in them that were checked.
I want to automatically synch a smaller subset of my iTunes library to my iPod, without using the "Sync checked songs only" feature, but I want ALL my playlists to appear in my iPod.
How do I make that happen?

if you're on a pc, have you considered using Media Monkey to manage your library?
BiPolar,
I'm using a mac, and I'd like to stick with iTunes if at all possible.
Can you create a duplicate library (Maybe using the export function)? Then move one to the apple tv, the other can be for you ipod? Then under preferances, you might have to change your library location ddepending on what you want to do. I don't know if that will even work, but it's my first guess.

I remember back in the day when, if you wanted a custom music library, you had to get a TAPE. Then you had to RECORD each song on the tape, and LISTEN to them while you did it. And we walked to school, six miles, uphill BOTH WAYS, and we LIKED it!
C30, C60, C90 go! How i miss those TDK tapes...
There is a great website called ilounge which answers these questions.

I got my first ipod, an ipod classic. The problem is I rely on public access internet, cyber cafe's, public library etc. The ipod requires downloading itunes software onto a computer, then using that computer to load music and podcasts onto the ipod. I have no home or work computer that I can consistently use for this purpose. There must be a way for someone like me, relying on public access internet to do this. Is there a website for this purpose? Can I use the storage space in my E-mail account to store the software and use it through that? How about a high capacity memory stick or external hard drive? The San Diego library computers have 2 usb plug in ports, ipod plugged into one, with memory stick or external hard drive loaded with itunes software plugged into the other. Would this work? There must be a way,
please advise.
