Every week I look forward to receiving the b3ta newsletter. This week, Spartacus_mill made a Star Wars video in silent movie style, entitled Droid Soup. At first I thought I’d seen it before, but no, this one is new (and quite good). But its not the first. There are quite a few creative minds reformulating Star Wars in the silent, black and white style. I found a few of them. And I like to share.
Steamboat Jedi is part two of the opus Spartacus_mill is working on.
Benjamin Kenobi: Space Knight from GBone77. Not quite as old as the silent film style, this trailer pays homage to the serials of the 30s and 40s.
Silent Star Wars by neonstudtz is probably the most popular of the genre.
The Sword of Light by Davis Li-Jen Lin is a Asian spaghetti-western-style fanfilm done silent. Talk about a confluence of genres! (Ten minutes)
lizzylizzy1 (who has made a ton of Star Wars videos) made several silent films focusing on the relationships in the Star Wars series. This one is Padme and Annikin.
Obi-Wan and Annikin
Luke and Leia
In fact, I never did find the silent Star Wars film I had seen months ago. But I found some weird and fascinating stuff looking for it. Those old Nazi propaganda films start to resemble a certain movie series is you put the right music behind them. Like the Imperial March.
Or even the Main Title Theme.
In fact, you can tell the story of World War II in total Star Wars style. Which might interest your kids while they cover this in school. Part one, part two, and part three.
That will keep you busy for quite a while.
