King Brat
Amazons Gone Wild
King Cat
Mummies in love
Return of the Golden Age
Every Wednesday we run down the 5 most interesting comics and graphic novels that come out this week. I've been away from the comics previewing thing for a couple of weeks but I'm back in full force this week with some quality books to check out.
5. Tiny Tyrant (First Second)
By Lewis Trondheim and Fabrice Parme
128 pgs | $12.95
King Ethelbert rules his little kingdom of Portocristo like a spoiled child treats his toys. Maybe that's because he is a child and since he's the king he can do anything he wants and no one can stop him. Fairly new publisher First Second books is into their third wave of reasonably priced graphic novels and this week two books from that wave hit the shelves. Each wave contains at least one book that is all ages friendly and this is one of them. This book contains twelve stories about the little king and it's sure to be a fun read.

4. AMAZONS ATTACK #1 (DC)
Written by Will Pfeifer; Art and Cover by Pete Woods
32 pgs | $2.99
DC's next big event starts a mere week after it's last big event (last week's hardly apocalyptic World War III). The 6 issue mini-series Amazons Attack picks up a thread from last year's Infinite Crisis in which Wonder Woman's entire people left the earth for parts unknown. Now they're back and pissed off. One thing that this book promises that has been somewhat absent from DC's event books lately is the work of a hot new artist, Pete Woods. This could be the book that puts him on the map.

3. KING-CAT CLASSIX (Drawn & Quarterly)
by John Porcellino
$29.95 US
John Porcellino has been doing mini-comics for about as long as anybody and now he's getting a nice hardcover retrospective that collects his first 50 issues of King-Cat Comics and Stories. Porcellino tells true stories about his life and the little everyday things that happen around him and his sparse drawing style reflects that diary-like intimacy. This 250+ page collection also includes end-notes, essays, articles and other things.

2. THE PROFESSOR'S DAUGHTER (First Second)
By Joann Sfar and Emmanuel Guibert
80 pgs | $16.95
The other release this week from First Second is the new book from the prolific French comics creator, Joann Sfar, although this time around Sfar is only writing while Emmanuel Guibert provides the beautiful pencils and watercolors. This original graphic novel tells the story of a mummy who awakens after 3000 years and falls in love with a young woman living in Victorian England. Can their love withstand the interference of family, police and archeologists?

1. AGENTS OF ATLAS (Marvel)
Written by Jeff Parker; art by Leonard Kirk and Kris Justice
256 pgs | $24.99
Remember Gorilla Man, Marvel Boy, The Human Robot and Venus? You know, from Marvel's Golden Age of the 1950s (back when it was Atlas Comics)? No? Neither does anyone but they're back now. Mixing 50s nostalgia with a modern edge, this mini-series was a surprise hit this year and now is collected in a hardcover with reprints of various forgotten books like Yellow Claw and Marvel Mystery Comics, showcasing these characters in their earlier appearances.
