It looks bad.

In case you’ve been under a rock, the Washington Post published a devastating report on the conditions our veterans deal with at Walter Reed Hospital. After the story broke, the military responded by clamping down on patients talking to the press. The administration responded by firing the hospital commander. And blaming the Defense Department.

Think Progress charted TV news networks to see how they covered the Walter Reed story vs. the Anna Nicole Smith story one one day (March 2). CNN had somewhat more references to Walter Reed. MSNBC had somewhat more references to Anna Nichole Smith. Fox News had 121 references to Smith and TEN to the Walter Reed story!

Jon Stewart had a concise and devastating take on the scandal. It probably won’t be his last word on the subject.

I think Dick Cheney's next surgery should be in these conditions. Let him suffer the fate of the troops he so cynically sent off to die for his beloved Halliburton.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present for your wonder and amazement, government healthcare in all its glory.

I know, I know--*civilian* government healthcare won't be like this. It will be much more pleasant, like jury duty, or a trip to the DMV.
