In an identical strategy to The Office, Stephen Merchant and Ricky Gervais are calling it quits on Extras after only 12 episodes, promising one last finale episode to finish the story.
I'd say that the two part finale of the UK version of The Office , and especially the last ten minutes of it, are among the finest moments ever seen in the final show of a comedy series, so let's hope they repeat the form on this one.
Lost and Battlestar Galactica (and probably Heroes as well) take note: quit while you're ahead (oh, too late).

Little fatmaaaaaaaaaaaaan, pug-nosed face

Which is why I'm holding out on the DVD set until that happens.
As much as I am fond of the American version of "The Office," I hope we don't get a version of Extras. I could see that quickly devolving into "The Surreal Life" with an acknowledged script.
I think it's good that they quit while their ahead. Compare that to what other sitcoms do, e.g., Friends, Cheers, namely: keep cranking out episodes until everyone gets totally sick of it and stops watching.
