There's an interesting social experiment going on today. Bum Rush The Charts is an effort to "strike fear into the hearts of the music industry" by using the power of the mob. Head over to iTunes TODAY and buy the track "Mine Again" by Black Lab, or better still, do it through this link where there will be an extra kickback to a good cause. It's an indie band who were turned down by several record labels, and the online community is attempting to get it to #1, to... well, just to prove that it can I think.
So, I'm not really convinced of the logic behind this. To be honest, if the mob acting together can put a band #1, then isn't that proof that iTunes is democratizing the music industry? Maybe I'm missing something. But hey, who am I to question. Go buy, and we'll see what happens. Be interesting to see if it works.

I like the idea of helping an independent artists out by participating in a buycott, but is Apple really the best place to be buying the songs? I'd much rather buy an mp3 without the DRM from an artist who understands why it's bad to limit their music. While the spirit of this endevour might be in the right place, making Apple even more rich isn't really the way that I want to spend my money.
Who is this band? Why should I do this? This sounds like a horrible viral marketing. It's akin to getting all your friends to vote for Mariah Carey so that her new song can go to #1 on TRL. I went to iTunes and checked them out. They sound like Keane, Travis, Coldplay, and every other band out there. Yawn. Perhaps there is a reason they haven't been picked up by a label yet.
---Yes ! show the man you're not going to take it anymore ! BUY MY STUFF !!
Don't be a mindless drone to the mega-rich imperialists and purchase what they tell you to buy....purchase what I tell you to buy !!!
Very clever marketing by Black Labs' management - but this is hardly going to "strike fear into the hearts of the music industry"...
After listening to the track, I have to agree - more corporate rock sound - heard it done, heard it done better...
and "many itunes mine again"??? when was it ever ours?
