Deviation

Deviation.png
You may or may not have seen the film Deviation that was linked here last year. It combines existential angst with shoot-em-up videogames in an unexpected but amusing way. Deviation is currently making the rounds of film festivals all over the world, and also entered into a film contest at Machinima.com. Go take a look, and if you like it, click on the fifth star. You can see other entries here.

Saturday Night at the Movies: 'Buddha Style

movies

After an admittedly not-so-brief absence due to twinsy baby madness, we return to Saturday Night Movie Madness with all the aplomb and bearing of a hobo with a head wound. Let's begin!

  • Have you wondered what exactly the writers of "Lost" are smoking? Olde English has the answer!
  • US Comedy and Arts Fest winners Summer of Tears gives us an inside look at the American Recording sessions with Rick Rubin and Johnny Cash
  • More Johnny Cash fun by way of Sad Kermit, who turns in this rousing cover of Cash covering NIN's 'Hurt'
  • Brad Neely's Professor Brothers give us one seriously messed up look at US History (also on SuperDeluxe)
  • And finally, the Evolution Scare is put to rest by none other than a jar of delicious new-life free peanut butter, thus proving the adage that Creationist Science is indistinguishable from Creationist Parody!
  • There you have it, kids! One week worth of Internet goodness compressed into a tasty five bite sandwich! See you next week!

    Impaired Down

"The Lookout" *** (out of four): Engaging story of a troubled young man (Joseph Gordon-Levitt, in a riveting performance) trying to piece together his life in the aftermath of a tragic car crash.

    thelookout.jpg

Chris Pratt is a severely troubled young man. When he’s asked to write an essay about a typical day, he can’t get past “I wake up.” He continually locks his keys in his car (thankfully, he carries a spare in his shoe) and he can’t get past a fatal car accident he caused four years ago. Chris was driving. His friends died. He went into a coma and, as one character notes, he came out of it a “different person”. All this has the makings of a self-conscious “indie” movie, but a smart script by Scott Frank (“Out of Sight”, “Get Shorty”) and a riveting performance by Joseph Gordon-Levitt make “The Lookout” an engrossing study of a deeply damaged small town boy.

    UFOPORNOO!

Delicious weirdness abounds. UFO Porno from the Finnish TV show Ranuan Kummit. Is it safe for work? Yes, unless your boss understands Finnish. If he/she does, then I honestly have no clue.

    Separated at Birth?

    21041 Shrek
American Idol's Melinda Doolittle and, errr, Shrek. It's all in the neck (or lack thereof).
