Officially, about 23,000 American soldiers have been injured in Iraq. Unofficially, that count may be as high as 50,000 if you count non-combat injuries and illnesses.
Photographer Thomas Dworzak was embedded with the troops and made a slideshow about the war called MASH Iraq.
What has changed in the 50 years since the war in which the TV show M*A*S*H was set? Soldiers in this war can suffer much more severe wounds and survive, leading to a lifetime of disability and misery. Bob Woodruff, who should know, will present a special on ABC tonight about those injured in the Iraq war.

This is an important story, MissC. Thanks for bringing this to light.
er... Death toll in Iraq is over half a million. Non-Americans are people too!
I didn't even address the number of deaths, just injuries. The statistics are horrendous for Iraqis, both death and injury.
