Stuart

Short for Student art, Stuart is a social network for young artists created by ad guy/art collector extraordinaire, Charles Saatchi. Since launching in November, it's grown to about 1,300 student-created web pages, and 3 million hits per day. Some great work, and it's set up so you can chat with the artists while you browse. MySpace for the young, aspiring artist-type...pretty cool.

Strangely Compelling Network Promos

In Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs, Chuck Klosterman talks about "the primary cultural obsession of all people born between 1968 and 1980 (i.e., profound nostalgia for the extremely recent past)." I came into the world in 1979, just under the wire. And I'm nostalgic for everything that's happened since.

I had no real reason to conduct a YouTube search of "Mr. Belvedere." But it returned some great results, some only tangentially related to Mr. B. Like this 1988 ABC promo, featuring Kirk Cameron, Larry & Balki, the dad from Just the Ten of Us, Dave Coulier and more.

The YouTube vault was filled with gold, from Randy Newman singing about MacGyver to Doogie Howser singing about the promising 1990 fall lineup.

Womanizer

Mommy, mommy...the mean women scared me.

No, that's not the February cover of Maxim you're looking at. It's the main image for an all female group show happening at Deitch Projects in Soho called Womanizer, as in "to saturate with femaleness". In other words, you can put us under a microscope all you want (see infamous reference image) but it's gonna be OUR microscope you look through.

Breakfast Links

GrannySniper.jpg

- Set the DVR's to Colbert and O'Reilly on January 18th, because they both should be pretty interesting.
- Heard of Little Mosque on the Prarie? Looks pretty good. Wonder if they'll do any Danish cartoon jokes.
- What's the phrase? Every time a white girl dies, a Fox News reporter gets its wings? Something like that.
- Hey, an article on the whereabouts of the Griswold Kids. Now that's a great idea. Rings a bell, though.
- And if the extra 21,500 troops aren't enough, there's a granny with an itchy trigger finger we can call.

Yvonne DeCarlo 1922-2007
Yvonne.jpg
Yvonne DeCarlo died Wednesday at age 84. You might know her as Lily Munster, but she had an amazing film career before The Munsters TV show. Look at these lovely pictures (possibly NSFW). Rest in Peace, Ms. DeCarlo.
