Commuting Suicide: Volume XXIII

I should remember that no matter how slow the traffic, or how annoying the seatmate, things could always be worse. My driver could decide to stab me.

New Jersey - WABC, January 8, 2007 - A bus driver is in police custody in New Jersey, accused of stabbing a passenger. Police say the driver got into a fight with the passenger around 8:45 Monday night at a stop along Bloomfield Avenue.

The passenger allegedly spat in the driver's face during a dispute over the fare. Police say that's when the driver pulled out a knife and stabbed the passenger in the shoulder. That passenger was taken to Newark Hospital.

I did almost get spit on once, but that was in the bus terminal. Besides, I lacked the proper retaliatory stabbing implement to escalate matters to the ABC News-worthy level.

Japanese scientists tackle the problem of smelly farts. This video is ten minutes long, but it gets funnier along the way. Would someone please add subtitles to this?! (via TV in Japan)

Steve Jobs' Keynote address is supposed to be a big one today (don't they always say that?) Could today be the day they announce the Apple phone? According to the Wall Street Journal a deal has been reached with Cingular. Will it look something like the photo that was supposedly leaked above? (That actually turns out to be an old mockup of the device but I would expect the real thing to look something like that, no?)

Catch up on live keynote coverage from any of the sites helpfully listed here.

Where Are They Now -The Boys of Tiger Beat

Just about every woman remembers the days of singing along with the radio in her bedroom, holding a hairbrush for a microphone. If that was you, who were you singing to? Probably the centerfold pinup from the latest Tiger Beat magazine!

We know David Cassidy and Donny Osmond, who sold more Tiger Beat magazines than anyone else, are both still recording music and performing. Osmond recently wrapped up his run in the Broadway musical Beauty and the Beast, and Cassidy has a full tour schedule. But what about the other teen idols of the 70s and 80s? (Now with added magazine cover update goodness)

- Man...crazy day yesterday, huh? First Manhattan had a little gas problem to deal with.
- Then it was a lousy day to be a pigeon, sparrow or grackle (no idea...look it up) in Austin.
- A love boat full of Miami tourists was on red alert because sprinkler parts smell a lot like C4.
- Houston had a problem as a chemical plant truck decided to release a little gas of its own.
- But it really hit the fan when Tigger started poppin' teenagers in the face at Disney World.
