Gifts to die for.

welcome mat.jpg
Did you know the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office has a gift shop? Yep, it's Skeletons in the Closet. If you go to the morgue, you won’t see a sign for it, since they try to be sensitive and all. I’ve purchased gifts online for those people who require a bit of imagination in gifts. Besides the welcome mat shown, they have clothing, accessories, office supplies, and a new kitchen cutting board that I now covet.

Its a part of the murder theme today at Miss Cellania.

Pac-Man Again!

A live-action recreation of Pac-Man, from Japanese television. In this version, you won’t get eaten, but you’ll be beaten with sticks! I wish I could understand the one-liners, but its funny enough without them. (via TV in Japan)

Aliens denied landing privileges at O'Hare

ohareufo.jpg

Many people, including high level management airline employees at Chicago's O'Hear airport claim to have seen a UFO on November 7. Despite the fact that the reposts come from level headed people in the aviation industry, the response of American Airlines and the Feds has been dismissive.

Who Are They Now? The NFL Quarterbacks' Wives Club (and girlfriends, too)

ashley_manning.jpg

Yesterday, a friend asked me whether Colts QB Peyton Manning was married. I'm supposed to know these things. So I fired up The Google. Turns out Peyton does wear at least one ring. Ashley Manning, above, is a real estate developer and 1997 graduate of the University of Virginia.

While this information was easy to locate, I was surprised to not find one definitive source for photos of NFL players' wives. Not to mention a little let down.

Which brings me to my YesButNoButYes New Year's Resolution. In 2007, if I'm Googling something and can't find it, I must fill the void. It's time to give back. Without further intro blabber, I offer you this semi-complete (yet nonetheless definitive) list of the women behind the men behind center.

brittany_brees.jpg
Brittany Brees, wife of New Orleans Saints QB Drew.
Drew does not talk to his mother, so I'm glad to see the state of his union is strong. Brittany is being discussed as possibly the hottest quarterback's wife in Saints history (or something like that).

kollette_klassen_plummer.jpg
Kollette Klassen, girlfriend of (soon-to-be former) Denver Broncos QB Jake Plummer.
They might be engaged; I've read conflicting reports. If Plummer wants to work again next year, the two should enter free agency as a package deal.

Spiders on Drugs

In the 1960s, Dr. Peter Witt gave drugs to spiders and observed their effects on web building. The results are both amazing and predictable, if that makes any sense. Take a break from the babes and sports you’re surfing for and learn a little something about nature.

Scenes from the Muppet Show

Mueck1.jpg

Went to see Ron Mueck at the Brooklyn Museum last Sunday. Many of you already know the artist...former Jim Henson protege and YesBut caption competition subject, his work speaks for itself. But actually seeing these pieces up close...the level of creative talent and technical expertise...you almost think they're going to look you in the eye and say stop staring at me. I've been to realist artists' shows before (Duane Hanson comes to mind) but this guy takes it to a level off the charts (which may explain why he's described as a hyperrealist.

On a related note, there was a plaque at the show that quoted the artist saying something like "I just want to make fun pieces that people will want to put in their homes". And I thought, Jesus, how refreshing is that. Reading his responses to questions on the museum site, you come away thinking he's just doing what he likes, and letting people think what they may. I've always wondered, when art critics give these incredibly detailed, intense explanations of what artists are trying to say with their work, are they really that good at getting inside their heads, or are they seriously full or shit...I'm starting to lean towards the latter.

Pachelbel Rant

I may be late to the party with this one, but I just saw it last week and it's pretty good. And if you've ever thought...enough already with the Pachelbel stuff, or Aerosmith or Blues Traveler or Green Day or...
