Twisted Christmas

Twisted Sister’s Christmas album is entitled (what else?) A Twisted Christmas. Here’s their short animated video of O Come All Ye Faithful. There’s also a live action version which is quite a bit longer, if you prefer. And a performance version from the Tonight Show. Anytime I have the choice, I go for the cartoon. And honestly, two minutes of Twisted Sister is enough.

The War on Christmas

The War on Christmas has never been so vividly brought to life than in this 1959 K. Gordon Murray classic film, Santa Claus. Until recently, the forces of evil have worked hard to keep this cinema classic away from your innocent eyes. Well, live in ignorance no more, I say, and feast your retinas on THE GREATEST CHRISTMAS STORY EVER TOLD!

Warren Ellis does Second Life

Warren
In last week's synopsis of Big Brother Second Life , I mentioned that one of the inspirations for Gideon Television was the gonzo journalist Spider Jerusalem from Warren Ellis' fantabulous Transmetropolitan. Since then, Gideons' star has risen a bit, being featured in the Bild's new SL tabloid The Avastar, he's been interviewed extensively for a Second Life book that's coming out next year, and his stories have been syndicated in The Second Life Herald.

I knew it was all too good to last. From next week, Warren Ellis will begin his own Second Life column over at Reuters, and after that, Gideon will be just a pale imitation. I knew we were heading for the death of Television

Holiday Magic

magic-hour2.jpg

As we've discussed, I miss The Magic Hour. (Question #1) How is this not on YouTube? The show aired in 1998, not 1983. Tapes must exist. In fact, I'm relatively certain I had a VHS recording of the infamous Howard Stern appearance. I'm heading over to my parents' house for Christmas, and will scour the video archives.

Here's the problem. Even if I find the tape, I'm unlikely to navigate the complexities of the YouTube upload process. The technological and motivational hurdles are just too great. (Question #2) Is there someone I could mail this tape? The YouTube community – by this I mean anyone who'd get a kick out of Magic's surreal monologue – would benefit immensely by smart people pitching in to digitize. Think of all the pure gold wasting away in closets or attics or boxes in basements. I may not have anything better than The Magic Hour, but I'm just one of thousands who inexplicably taped crap in his youth.

If you have the power, come forward. The world will be a better place.

And if this service is well established already, point me the way.

Scrooged at the Office

ScroogeMcDuck.png
Think your boss is cheap? Slate Magazine asked its readers to submit reports of horrible office Christmas parties, gifts, and bonuses. Of nearly 200 tales, they’ve chosen The Corporate Scrooge Contest Results. From the story:

A former employee of the firm that produces the Great Dickens Christmas Fair in San Francisco reports that the company departed from its tradition of giving modest cash bonuses and instead gave out white painters' caps with the words "Bah Humbug" stenciled in red.

Sometimes, unemployment doesn't seem all that bad.
