"Curse of the Golden Flower" **1/2 (out of four): With this sweeping melodrama of royal intrigue in 10th century China, Zhang Yimou might have finally gone a bit too far.

It's really saying something to say that Zhang Yimou has gone overboard. The writer-director of such memorable epics as “Raise the Red Lantern”, “Hero” and “House of Flying Daggers” has never been one to shy away from spectacle. But with “Curse of the Golden Flower”, his sweeping melodrama of royal intrigue in 10th century China, he might have finally gone a bit too far.

Michael Bay gets a lot of flack - I'm a big fan of Armageddon and I still think The Island didn't suck as much as many believe. So it'll be interesting to see what he does with that icon of many childhoods (although a little late for me), Transformers. Here's the newest trailer.

A nice geek Christmas present for us all - AMC have announced they are remaking 60s TV show The Prisoner, so that a whole new generation can turn to each other and say "well, what the fuck was THAT all about". You know, kind of like Lost, but with big balloons instead of intelligent swarms.

Huh, now I think about it, Lost IS a remake of The Prisoner.
