
Anna Politkovskaya, one of the toughest critics of Russian President Vladimir Putin and of pro-Moscow Chechen Prime Minister Ramzan Kadyrov, was just about to publish an article on the pracitice of torture used to get confessions for anti-government activities. On Saturday, Ms. Politkovskaya was assassinated in the elevator of her apartment building, shot once in the chest and once in the head.
Makes you think about alot of things...the freedoms we enjoy in this country, and the freedoms that are slowly falling away. Where our government's priorities lie, and who we consider our allies. And the sacrifices some people make in an honest attempt to make the world a better place.
