Blurring reality

Avatar-1
Two Second Life stories in one morning. My apologies, but this is cool. SL Builder Versu Richelieu is currently spending 72 hours trapped in the window of Datavision, an electronics store in NYC. But she's also logged into Second Life, and will spend the time THERE constructing a version of the surrounding street in which she's sitting in real life.

Well, if none of that made sense, head over to the site where you can watch it all unfold between now and Saturday. Funnily enough, it looks like she's just as cute in RL as SL. As are we all (ummm......)

A shot of Coffee

Starbucks Inhaler
From The Sherman Foundation comes a fantastic idea - a coffee inhaler. seems to me like it'd be the perfect solution when you have to catch the redeye and they stop all liquids at the gate. Hey, if you can inhale alcohol, why not coffee?

For myself, I prefer to snort my coffee directly through a dollar bill after cutting it up on a glass tabletop, but this would be a good backup.

SL Thriller

Another clip that made me laugh this morning. Sorry for the uninspired commentary. And here's another:

Don't forget Bruno

Thanks to World of Wonder this morning for reminding me that, aside from Ali G and Borat, Sacha Cohen also created the FABULOUS Bruno. Whoever knew that eating chocolate dessert could be part of a homosexual lifestyle.

Now THAT'S a Flashmob

Flashmob002
Scene from the "mobile clubbing" flashmob that descended on Liverpool Street station in London last night. Several hundred turned up with iPods and headphones, and boogied away.

- Ever seen a bunch of album covers fight with each other? Well step right this way.
- Take Stewart, throw in a little Letterman, and you have a very entertaining interview.
- Back in her day, Sandy Sullivan did a bunch of Green Bay Packers, so vote for her.
- Whose turn was it to watch Uncle Saul? You know how he gets at family weddings.
- And did you know Tower Records is going away? Talk about the end of an era.

Has "Lost" lost its way?

Lostfox01
Last year, we extensively covered Lost, enjoying the minutiae of detail attached to every theory. I remember a whole discussion about when Lost may be taking place - the past, the near future, the far future?

Last night we got our answer to that - we're 60 or so days after the season 1 premiere, back in 2004. Jack was amazed that the Red Sox had finally beaten The Curse of the Bambino (though, curiously, less surprised that the nation had suffered temporary insanity and re-elected George W Bush).

And I found myself really not caring - in fact, the clip of the World Series gave me a weird "jumped the shark" feeling in the pit of my stomach. I know we're only a couple of episodes in, but it's starting to feel like Lost is starting to go the way of The X Files. By the time we get to a solution, it'll be so convoluted that we'll all shrug and wonder why we'd ever cared so much. By comparison, I'm digging Studio 60 on Sunset Strip and longing for the next Battlestar Galactica.

But my Lost season pass on TiVo just moved to a notch above Prison Break.

Blood Diamond

diamond.png
The diamond industry is already getting rather nervous about the movie Blood Diamond, in theaters this December. The movie tells the fictional tale of two South Africans, a white mercenary and a black fisherman (Leonardo DiCaprio and Djimon Hounsou), who find a rare pink diamond. The gem trade is busy trying to defend its reputation and sales after publicity about conflict diamonds by such groups as Amnesty International, Global Witness, and One Sky. Personally, I prefer pearls.
