From today's news...Denmark arrests 9 in terror sweep. Obviously, I'm relieved police are stopping these plots before they're successful. Still, has anyone noticed how many of these there have been lately? Let's count...
June 3, 2006: Canadian police arrest 17 people planning to commit a series of terrorist attacks in southern Ontario.
June 23, 2006: Seven people in custody in Florida in connection with a plot against the Sears Tower.
July 7, 2006: Plot to bomb NYC's Holland Tunnel in an effort to flood the financial district uncovered by the FBI.
Aug 10, 2006: Scotland Yard disrupts plot to blow up planes in flight from the UK to the US and commit mass murder.
Sept 1, 2006: 14 people arrested on suspicion of running terrorist training camps across Britain.
Sept 3, 2006: Four Men Arrested in British Terror Camp Sweep Under Spanish Surveillance for some time.
Sept 5, 2006: Police in Denmark arrest nine people suspected of plotting a terror attack with explosives.
About three months ago, I came across a YouTube video by a guy named Alex Jones. Many of you may know him, but I had no idea who he is. He says he predicted 9/11 months before it happened, and tried to warn people about it. I didn't pay any attention because he comes off kinda crazy (then again, I probably do, too) Read his wikipedia entry, and he REALLY comes off as crazy. But in this video, he mentions another attack is coming, and it will be prefaced by a string of terror arrests, just in time for the '06 elections.
Not making any judgements, just noticing a coincidence. No one wants to be accused of being Chicken Little. Then again, being an ostrich isn't so great, either.

Fair comment, but the general point about these conspiracists is that nothing is ever proven is it? That way they can just go on forever saying what we see and hear isn't the truth.
As for all these terror arrests, there is no doubt that countries such as the UK have a rising problem with disaffected young muslims becoming radicalized. There are also pretty strong links between this radicalization and US & UK foreign policy. There is also no doubt that these radicals are preparing another spectacular, Alex Jones is no more knowledgeable than the next man, he’s just stating the obvious.
I don’t know where you are based, but for someone who works in Central London and takes the tube to and from work every day, you have no idea how frightening it is.
Yes, I’m big and brave, but they will strike again and I only just missed the bombs last July and the effect on London if there was another strike would be devastating. That said these attacks, like 9/11 and 7/7 are pretty much undetectable in advance; yes the security services can catch certain elements, watch others etc, but if you are determined enough (and if you are a suicide bomber you are) to get through you will.

I actually live three blocks from ground zero in Manhattan, and I take the subway to work every day, so I'm right there with you in being concerned.
And as someone who lived through about a half dozen terror color chart upgrades before our last election, I can't help but notice how a similar pattern is taking place this year.
It's funny actually, this "War on Terror" has made me far more liberal than I have ever been. I vote Conservative (see Republican), but i guess I too have liberal beliefs, but that might be to do with my religous leanings. As i said to a colleague who seemed genuinely shocked that I liked Bruce Springsteen, as how did that relate to my politics etc, I said "Just because i vote Conservative, it doesn't make me a fascist". Never a truer word said.
The facts are the world is much scarier now. Have a look in yesterday's London Evening Standard (thisislondon.com), there was some horrific figure of well of 40% of Londoners have got off the bus or tube when sat next to a person of Asian (not Asians as the US calls them) or North African extraction. Is THAT what the world has come to?
I actually think Scotland Yard got lucky with discovering the plans to blow up the airliners last month, i really believe that was going to happen and that was the big spectacular planned. Now they'll just recruit a few more foot soldiers and try again.
On another note, can I just say that this is the first site (after the BBC of course) I look at each day. Keep up the good work and FFS keep safe.
