Questions? Answers!

question mark people.jpg
When you spend too much time alone, you begin to ponder the big questions in life. The internet has the answers! At least, some of them. The big questions we all want answered are:
Is it Friday?
Is it 5:30?
What’s for supper?
How many days til Christmas?
Where's Waldo?
Can spiders fart?

Just as they were getting started

T Shirt

In an announcement today, Linden Labs announced the possibility that the database of Second Life users may have been hacked, and that at least some data was compromised, including "Second Life names, real life names and contact information".

While Linden have taken the precaution of making everyone reset their passwords (and apparently there's some grief amongst the long time users who forgot what the answer to their security question was and now can't get back in), the more vexing problem for all those anonymous users is - will the list of Real Names and SL names pop up online somewhere?

And if so, will Gideon suddenly realize that all those escorts he met were 50 year old men?

How it should have ended

howit.jpg

I stumbled upon How Superman Should Have Ended at youtube and thought it was pretty clever and very well done. Turns out there are a lot more on the site.

There is also a website that bears the same name dedicated a whole bunch of similar animations. I am just checking them out, but they look like a lot of fun and a great way to waste some time.

If you're in New York this weekend...

GoodLifeProject.jpg SpaceBall.jpg

Via Gothamist, The Good Life: New Public Spaces for Recreation explores the reinvention of public urban spaces (ie: the high line) to meet the needs of 21st century recreation. (I've got 21st century recreational needs) Architects and designers represented include Diller & Scofidio, Acconci Studio, SHoP, Hood Design and many others. The show is at Hudson River Park's Pier 40 and features video, gaming, panels and food from Florent.

And the second annual Art Parade marches down Grand Street this weekend This thing is a trip. And I've got the 700 Flickr photos to prove it. If you're in Soho on Saturday, check it out.

And if you're in New York in October...

NYFest.jpg nyc2006-splash-front.jpg

Tickets for the New Yorker festival went on sale more than five minutes ago, which means many of the best events are already sold out. Still some good ones left, though. So hurry up.

And if a three week long water gun assassination game sounds like your idea of heaven, then you better sign up for Street Wars. According to the site, at the start of the game, you're given the name, picture and home and work addresses of your intended target. The rest is up to you. How twisted and cool does that sound?

And if you're into this live-action outdoor stuff...only five months left to assemble your shopping cart race team

The very definition of 'it'll all end in tears"

Bondagedude
Gideon's recent experience with angry virtual escorts has nothing on this guy (no, not the picture, that was just the best image I could find). Jason Fortuny posted a fake very sexually explicit message on craigslist, pretending to me a submissive woman looking for a dominant man. What isn't surprising is that he got 178 responses, including pictures of the men in various states of undress. What is slightly more surprising in this era of "if you look at me funny, I'll sue you", he published all the responses online, including real names and contact details. Much hilarity, physical threats and marriage breakups ensue. For the short attention span, a good synopsis is over at Waxy.

Here's another one I'm late on...

600_heff.jpg

But it's too good not to post. The NY Times recently ran a story on a kid named FunTwo, and his incredile electric guitar performance of Pachelbel's Canon. It was first posted eight months ago, has had 7 million views and a whole bunch of imitators. Apparently, the arrangement was written by a Taiwanese guitarist named Jerry Chang, who goes by JerryC. But it was FunTwo's, or Jeong-Hyun Lim's performance on YouTube that made it explode.

I don't see any brides walking down the aisle to this anytime soon, but I could watch the video over and over again.

Friends of the Freedom Tower

07wtc.jpg

Designs for the remaining World Trade buildings were released yesterday. What do you think? I like the randomness of it. Gives the city a whole new skyline. Add these to the Calatrava Path Station and the memorial and we'll have a pretty amazing World Trade Center...just hope it gets built.

(check out 7 World Trade in the background. It's a dwarf next to these giants)

Breakfast Links

Scoffers.jpg

- So far the star and the screenwriter of the upcoming ABC 9/11 fantasy have said some of the scenes are made up.
- Did you know an anaconda has a hundred razor-sharp teeth that curve back to trap its prey? These policemen do.
- Cracked.com is having a contest to find Katie's new sign-off. My favorite...Al Roker has been inside me, America.
- Time for the news follies...a weatherman hates cockroaches, and a Fox news reporter hates getting beaten up.
- And comedians John Stewart and Steve Colbert of the Communist Central network...and from there is gets better.

Lonelygirl15 Not Real: Nerd Drama Ensues

viraldummies.jpg

In the biggest PR blunder since Hitler announced he was changing the formula of Coca Cola, the creators of LonelyGirl15 came out from behind the curtain yesterday to greet their fans.

Their fans promptly turned on them, shocked to learn that the perfect teenager in the perfect bedroom with the perfect soap opera drama going on in her life wasn't actually a real person.

Having a large portion of your fanbase hate you is never a good career move, just ask Mel Gibson.

404 Error

Whoops! We're not sure if it was your fault or ours (probably yours, we're good that way) but you've encountered a FATAL ERROR!!! Or at least, a pretty grumpy one.

Specifically the Latvians who run our server are telling us in a weird accent "Smarty error: [in evaluated template line 5]: syntax error: unrecognized tag 'mtfeed' (Smarty_Compiler.class.php, line 580), Comrade!". Ain't life a bitch.

If you want to vent, email our slacker of a webmaster. Otherwise, we'd suggest going back, using search, or clicking around aimlessly on this page like a moron.

Have fun.
