In one month, we will mark the five-year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. D. Challener Roe is working hard to get 2,996 bloggers involved in a non-partisan tribute to the victims of 9/11. The idea is for each blogger to post a tribute to one victim on September 11, 2006. Although mine is a humor blog, I will be posting a serious tribute to Robert C. McLaughlin, a 29-year old Cantor Fitgerald employee who perished in the World Trade Center. So far, 1,608 bloggers have signed on, which is an amazing response, but its only half of those needed. Roe is keeping track and posting updates at the project blog, 2996. Bloggers can go there to sign up and be assigned a person to write about. You can request a particular individual if you want.
Kisses and hugs to all bloggers who step up to the plate!
(update)Aquaman asked: I love the idea, but how does this work? Did you know the person you're writing about? Are you going to contact the family? I don't think I'd be able to make that unsolicited call.
I don't know him. I know several people who have requested people they know to honor. I found a lot of information by Googling; there are a lot of individual tribute sites out there, probably for most of the victims, posted by friends and family. I plan to leave a message at a couple of them, explaining the program and inviting any input from friends and family. I'll also leave a link to the 2,996 site for validation.

I will go join, I promise!
