*Follow up 8/21/06: experts say "it's just a dog, maybe a chow mix" Bummer. But I hear that Chows can be really scary too.
An un-identifiable Dog/Rodent hybrid was struck by a car on Rt. 4 in Maine while chasing a cat. Local residents speculate that the creature maybe the mysterious predator that has been prowling the countryside, attacking dogs, frightening adults, and producing an "otherworldly howl". For other recent "hybrids in the news" follow the jump:

The thing killed in Maine was just a feral dog according to cryptozology expert Loren Coleman

The tigron? Is that any different than a liger?
Maybe DNAGal can correct me, but I believe a Tigron is from male Tiger/female lion, a Liger is from a male lion/female tiger.
Scara's got it. But, in my haste I misspelled the hybrid's name. It's a Tigon. Apollogies. :)
I can't believe they quoted a fucking cryptozoologist in that story. That's the equivilent of asking an astrologist questions about astrophysics. My guess is that it's either a hoax or those people are idiots.
Excellent point, the Sasquatch and Nessie experts are not likely the ones that I'd refer to for validation of a new species or a mutant individual. Although I think the Mainers sought them out because they thought they had a Chupacabra on their hands.
