From my email box this morning:
From: troysch1@aol.com
Subject: Raunchy, entertaining video at www.huffingtonpost.com
Hi! I've known about your site for a while now and I came across a video clip that I think your readers would appreciate. It is part of a series of creative ads that JWT has taken out at www.huffingtonpost.com/jwt. In particular, I think you would enjoy this hilarious, sexy advertisement for scruffs clothing (hardcore). tell me what you think!
I really don't know whether to laugh or cry. Next thing you know, JWT Nairobi will be asking me to transfer money for them left in a coup by an ex-client/dictator

So porn = new, creative, edgy. And how much do they have to pay Tarantino for ripping him off?
The funny thing is according to that email address they seem to be using AOL still.
President: (english accent) We have some extra cash in the budget should we hand out raises?
Other President: Nah, let put our commercials on a blog instead.
President: (english accent) Cool. You mean like Adweek or Creativity to attract new clients?
Other President: Nah, something not relating to advertising at all, a political blog that probably 1% of the web reads. To attract consumers who might be interested in JWT.
Other President: Makes no sense to me. Lets do it!
kickstand, were you at the brainstorm for this project?
"Hi! I've known about your site for a while (but never had a use for it until) now...."
Looky here! We paid Arianna out the wazoo, but we hope YOU will want to runs our ads for FREE!
LOL that is a funny email. But in fairness to Huffpost, their alexa ranking (web traffic counter) is 1251, this site's is 56,664 (lower number the better). and the ads are also pretty funny...
That's where you're wrong, kickstand. I saw the work, went to their site, and then hired them to promote my upcoming garage sale. They're going to do some cool guerrilla posters and a way cool viral for youtube that's sure to make my garage sale a monster success!
By the way, the IP address of "Val" above - 24.39.146.250 ? It tracks directly back to Jonah Peretti and Huff Post. God, they're shameless. But at least they think their own emails are hilarious.
Now that seems worthy of it's own post on the front page, Scaramouch. It's one thing you a questionably worded email and entirely another to comment on the subject without identifying themselves.
I think we've given these jokers far enough publicity as it is. Besides, we're only ranked 56,664 on almighty Alexa, so it hardly seems worth the bother :)
I still haven't seen one negative comment posted on the HuffPo pages for any of the spots despite a claim from JWT's chief marketing officer in Adweek that both positive and negative comments would be highlighted.
