Brocktoon

Mrbelvedere.jpg

Earlier tonight, I heard Stewie belt out the wildly entertaining Mr. Belvedere theme on the Family Guy. Thank God for YouTube, where I found the full-length original. The video is a little smushed, but the tune is catchy as ever.

What I couldn't find was the SNL/Tom Hanks "The Guy Who Plays Mr. Belvedere Fan Club" skit from 1992. Here's a transcript.

Just about a year ago, YesButNo broke the news of Christopher "Mr. Belvedere" Hewett's 2001 passing. That kicked off the Retro-bituary series. Following Brocktoon were the Painter from Murphy Brown, Becky's Boyfriend from Roseanne, Hotsy Totsy from Welcome Back Kotter, Bob McAllister from Wonderama, Morty Seinfeld, and the special Fun Facts Edition. I can't think of any obscure celebrity deaths we failed to celebrate this year. Thoughts?

Clothed for Business

"The Devil Wears Prada" *** (out of four): Breezy satire as glossy and superficial as the industry it skewers (and idolizes).

devilprada.jpg

Depending on your point of view, I may either be the best person or the worst person to review “The Devil Wears Prada”, the slick adaptation of Lauren Weisberger's best seller about the inner workings of fictional fashion magazine “Runway”. I don’t have much interest in the world of fashion, nor have I read Ms. Weisberger’s book. However, with that in mind, it’s to the film’s credit that I still found it an enjoyable satire, as glossy and superficial as the industry it purports to skewer.

RSS is your friend

I just wanted to remind all our readers that YBNBY offers full RSS feeds of its stories, at the top of every page in our masthead. According to our stats, we only have about 600 RSS subscribers, and PodGuide.TV (which I just closed down due to lack of interest) had more than that. You can add our feed to Yahoo, Google or any other RSS reader you regularly use. You can also subscribe to a comments only feed if you really want to.

When websites die, do they dream?

Cs Logo5
Although I do undertake sporadic backups of YesButNoButyes, the fact is that reconstructing it all in the event of a catastrophic hard drive crash would probably be much more work than I would be able to undertake. So make sure you make the most of the site while it's here, and visit the archives to cherish all of our old posts.

Because one day, you might wake up to find a sad message like this one at The Couch Surfing Project.

The architecture of Fight Club

Chapter 1
Regular readers may remember that Fight Club is probably my favorite film, so it's nice to see a clear and complete explanation of all the complexities of the subplots.

Unfortunately, this isn't it.

Breakfast Links

- Yesterday, Gothamist ran an article on the Snapple parabounce. Which led me to ask...what the hell's a parabounce?
- Steve Nash was in my gym this morning. No link, I just needed to tell someone. (Mostly cardio, no free weights...pussy.)
- Did you watch Chris Matthews put Steve Colbert in a full nelson? Now there's something you don't see every day.
- Elena caught her boyfriend with another woman and she really want's to hurt him. We've all dated an Elena, haven't we.
- And for those into The Office, which I believe is everyone who writes for this site, here's your chance to be a star.

404 Error

Whoops! We're not sure if it was your fault or ours (probably yours, we're good that way) but you've encountered a FATAL ERROR!!! Or at least, a pretty grumpy one.

Specifically the Latvians who run our server are telling us in a weird accent "Smarty error: [in evaluated template line 6]: syntax error: unrecognized tag 'mtfeed' (Smarty_Compiler.class.php, line 580), Comrade!". Ain't life a bitch.

If you want to vent, email our slacker of a webmaster. Otherwise, we'd suggest going back, using search, or clicking around aimlessly on this page like a moron.

Have fun.
