Jack Hill's Spider Baby is in a class all it's own. This strange movie about an inbred family afflicted with a genetic disorder that causes them to mentally regress to a savage state is half-horror/half-comedy and completely off the wall.
Made for $65,000 and filmed in 12 days, Spider Baby is apparently the only film Jack Hill shot with a completed script. In the last few years, the restored print has been screened at many film festivals, and the word-of-mouth has helped build a considerable, and well-deserved cult following for the DVD release.

And don't forget: the title song was sung by Lon Chaney Jr.!
I'm just remembering the opening scene, where the delivery guy sticks his head in the window, and we see that inside the house everything is this light low-contrast, kinda foggy dusty gray -- much, much creepier than what we'd expect, just a dark haunted house. And there she is... with knives!
