This is Lightning Bolt and they have come to destroy you. And, believe it or not, the beating issued, comes from only two guys. One bassist that barely moves and a drummer in a modified Mexican wrestling mask with a mic in the mouthpiece... that's it. With just a bass and drums, these guys have created the densest sound imaginable.
If you have any interest in heavy and/or experimental music make sure you don't miss this. I saw them for the first time tonight at The Hook, in Redhook, Brooklyn (great bar, btw). Apparently, they always set up in the middle of the floor so the audience gets right up on them. The crowd had to hold themselves up on the drums to keep from toppling everything over. I have to say even though it was a hipster crowd, they were far easier to take than most metal crowds.
I've had Lightning Bolt's latest album, Hypermagic Mountain, for a while now and it's an amazing listen. But, the experience can't truly be captured on record or video. The only way to come close to recreating what they're like live, would be to play that album so loud that you come pretty close to crapping yourself.
