Not your average email scam
0 Comments

While I'm used to the Nigerian email scams that regularly offer me a share of wealth stashed by fleeing regimes, I have to say that this one really impressed me:

I know you would be surprised to read from someone relatively unknown to you before. My name is Sgt. Robert Greene, a member of the U.S. Marine Corps, which was deployed to Iraq in the beginning of the war in Iraq. I would like to share some highly personal classified information about my personal experience and role which I played in the pursuit of my career serving under the U.S 1st Marine Division which was at the fore-front of the war in Iraq.

Though, I would like to hold back certain information for security reasons for now until you have find the time to visit the BBC website stated below to enable you have insight as to what I’m intending to share with you, believing that it would be of your desired interest one way or the other.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/2988455.stm

The last sentence in the linked story is the kicker. You have to admit, when you have the BBC backing up your story, and a fairly recent story at that, it's a cut above in terms of sophistication.

I haven't posted too much in the past year because I've been working on my thesis at NYU. I just graduated with a master in digital imaging and design...basically 3-D animation. YBN provided me with those much needed entertainment breaks when I needed a breather from school, and I thought I'd share the finished product with its readers.

Crusaders take the cup

Jesus
World Cup hosts Germany hosted an interfaith match-up between priests and imams in Berlin this past weekend. Sound crazy? hold on - it was officiated by rabbis!

I really had a tough time coming up with a title for this one. "A priest and an imam walk into a cross-bar." "Jesus can't play goalie." "Soccer imams drive home losers." Got any more?

Kahiki Demolition

The Kahiki Super Club was one of the greatest Polynesian restaurants in the world. Located in Columbus, OH, the Kahiki opened in 1961 and remained in business until August, 2000, when it was torn down to become a Walgreens. Yes, a Walgreens.

Most of the interior decor of the Kahiki was put in storage by the owners, including the massive Moai fireplace pictured above. I shot the salvage crew's rescue of the Moai through a hole cut in the roof two days before the entire building was demolised.

Click to watch the video.

Here is a flickr photoset of the salvage operation, including interior shots.

Most of the great Polynesian restaurants are long gone, but a few spectacular ones remain, including the amazing Mai Kai in Ft. Lauderdale, which is an absolute must-visit.

Critiki is a great resource for discovering Tiki Temples past and present.

The music in the video is Robert Drasnin's Voodoo, from the record/cd of the same name.

For more information about the Kahiki, visit the amazing community at Tiki Central.

Halliburton Survivaball

SurvivaBalls™ save managers from abrupt climate change

An advanced new technology will keep corporate managers safe even when climate change makes life as we know it impossible.

"The SurvivaBall is designed to protect the corporate manager no matter what Mother Nature throws his or her way," said Fred Wolf, a Halliburton representative who spoke today at the Catastrophic Loss conference held at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Amelia Island, Florida. "This technology is the only rational response to abrupt climate change," he said to an attentive and appreciative audience.
