Another thing I've learnt from the experience of parenting boys: You spend a couple of years potty training them with a regular sit-down potty, but then when you take them out to a movie or a mall or whatever, they find it very uncomfortable to actually stand at a urinal to pee, because they're so used to sitting down to do it. And frankly, I don't WANT my kids sitting on public lavatory seats, apart from in a #2 emergency.
Which is why i love Peter Potty, the “world's only flushable toddler urinal”.
Plus, when you push the button, it plays “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” (Think about it).

We got one of these for our 2 year old he's still in the early stages of learning but we think this is a huge step up from the regular potty chair we used with the 5 year old.
