There's been a lot of buzz around “consumer-generated advertising” lately. I guess advertisers are beginning to realize that their glossy corporate messages are looking increasingly tired, and hope that the honesty of real people will rub off on them. It backfired with Chevy's attempt to allow users to make their own spots, which resulted in a flood of ads about gas-guzzling SUVs. And the jury is still out on Mastercard, who have solicited “Priceless” examples from the public, but have yet to unleash the winners
But it looks like American Express have actually got it right. They invited people to submit their own “My Life” 15 second clips, and have a video podcast feed of the best. And some of them are pretty good.
