Concert-ed Effort

"Dave Chappelle's Block Party" ***1/2 (out of four): Dave Chappelle's celebration of, well, celebrating is like one of those great parties where you never get to spend enough time with anyone.

blockparty.jpg

Most parties are pretty lame. Despite all the planning and arranging, most gatherings end up being let-downs. People cancel, they don’t get along, there’s some kind of drama, the food doesn’t come out right, someone drinks too much. There’s always something standing between you and one of those mythic parties that come along once in a lifetime. Now, thanks to director Michel Gondry, we’ve got one on film: “Dave Chappelle's Block Party”.

Cutting off the end of TiVo sho.......

sad_tivo.jpg

My TiVo has been acting up recently. Cutting off the last 7-10 minutes of shows. Making me miss the old Video Cassette Recorder.

I found answers in the TiVo Help Forums. If anyone else is having a problem with partial recordings, they claim the cure is simply unplugging your TiVo. We'll see.

The Battlestar That Never Was

2001 cylon

Here's a fx demo reel from 2001 of what the new Battlestar Galactica might have been like if original producer Bryan Singer had stayed at the helm. It's rather odd seeing 70's Cylon Raiders in a 21st century effects shot.

...and oh, here's a Cylon getting his hair done.

Go with The Flow

Flow is a mesmerizing, ethereal game where your aim is to slowly grow and evolve. At first it seems a little slow, but the more you play, the more hooked you get. plus the soundtrack is almost hypnotic - I think DNAGal will like this one. (via Transbuddha)

Whammies

petertomarken.jpg

Former Press Your Luck host Peter Tomarken died in a plane crash yesterday off the coast of Santa Monica. Bummer.

To honor his passing, here's my favorite Press Your Luck story:

"In 1984 an Ohio man put together an astounding run on the television game show Press Your Luck. He did so by memorizing the sequences by which the various prize squares lit up on the game board, allowing him to time his button presses to coincide with the lights' stopping on the most advantageous squares. By hitting 35 such squares in a row, he was able to accumulate the largest win in the history of that show, and he did it all in under an hour. When the effort became too fatiguing, he passed his remaining spins to another contestant rather than risk losing his accumulated winnings to a mis-timed press of the plunger. By hitting these types of squares again and again, he racked up a total of $110,237 before finally relinquishing his turn."

In case you were wondering, my list of favorite Press Your Luck stories is a mile long.

Breakfast Links

- Seems I wasn't the only person who thought South Park crossed the line once or twice.
- If there was anything that would ever get me to a minor league hockey game, this might be it.
- A Will Ferrell/Shaq skit that never ran on SNL. Funny, but about two minutes too long.
- Danni doesn't like gay people, Muslims or abortions. She'll do well in fashion.
- And does anyone know what un gotsar a malenga (or whatever the hell Junior said) means?
