I don't mean to encroach on DNAgal's Ugly Animal Kingdom here but when you come across a picture of a one eyed cat you can't help but run to the nearest blog and point to it for others to see. Besides once you get past the initial freak-out, it's not all that ugly, really.

This is obviously a fake; a kitten's eyes are closed when they are born. I'm surprised the AP got caught up in a hoax like this, as it is a terrible photoshop job. Will they take over for the Weekly World News in giving updates on Bat Boy?
I initially thought the same thing. It's covered on Snopes today, but they claim that it is authentic. They indicate that:
"Cyclopia (or synophthalmia) is a birth defect in which a normally two-eyed animal is born with only a single fused eye, generally disproportionately large and centered on the face above the area where the nose would usually appear. Typically in cyclopic births the nose is either absent or present as an appendage located above the single eye. (Eyelids are also generally absent in such births, which explains why the eye of the one-day-old kitten pictured above is open even though cats are usually born with their eyes shut and remain in that condition for the first week or two of their lives.)"
This kitty is real and had "Holoprosencephaly", which "causes facial deformities, according to the National Institute for Neurological Disorders and Stroke, part of the National Institutes of Health. In the worst cases, a single eye is located where the nose should be, according to the institute's Web site." I found a story about him on Yahoo, where tha quote came from. Icredible what genetics are capable of! Sadly he has since dies! Poor guy!

Its real, im from Redmond, Oregon and went to high school there, i was close with most of the teachers. Sine i joind the Marines when i go home i stop in and say hi, This crazy lookin cat was the Secretarys Sons cat. She showd us pictures on her Camera phone etc. I think its flippen ugly as hell.

The picture is not fake .I have 3 others of the same kitten . this kitten belongs to my sister . If you notice the kitten has no eye lids. so therefor can not shut its eye .Ass.press has already verified it authenticity .It broke my heart when I first heard about it .Poor lil creature . least it only lived only a few hours .

I at first didn't believe it just like "Jellio" because its eye was open and kittens eyes aren't open when they are first-born. However, this isn't a hoax, or doctored photo. It's not fake. It was proved, experts found the photo's on the camera of the lady who took it, then they looked at the picutres, which were about 4 different angles of the cat. They determined that there was no way it could be a hoax. It was born with a deformation and had no nose. Poor thing didn't have much of a chance to live. Very depressing.
