With the Best Drama Golden Globe going to Brokeback Mountain, it looks like a main contender for Best Picture at the Oscars too. Which means there's one group of people heaving a huge sigh of relief tonight.
No, not The Log Cabin Republicans. I'm talking about the Adult Movie Industry. Year after year, Hollywood's output provides fertile ground for the makers of top class porn, and a story about gay cowboys is going to be right up their back alley.
All of which is the only excuse I need to look through the YesButNoButYes DVD library, and bring you the Top Adult Versions of the last ten years' Academy Award Winners.
In 1961, as Dwight D. Eisenhower gave his final address to the nation before leaving the office of President of the United States, he warned that America "must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence...by the military-industrial complex.
This is the starting point for Why We Fight, a film that asks to what extent have military-industrial interests, once a by-product of policy, come to define the policy itself? In other words...do the American people have any say AT ALL in the foreign policy decisions of the United States.

Ever since I moved out of pedestrian-focused NYC and bought my first car I've been interested in the latest advances in automobile technology (not that I'll be able to afford anything new, the car I got I'm stuck with for the foreseeable future). Here's a few things I've read about though that will be coming to a car near you this year:

This question is at the heart of a two-part program recently shown in the UK. In it, Professor Richard Dawkins (interesting guy) goes after organized religion with both barrels, and challenges what he describes as "a process of non-thinking called faith" (that's pretty funny).
In this clip from part one, God Delusion, Dawkins and Evangelical Pastor Ted Hawkins discuss relgious doctrine vs. scientific method (As you listen to Mr. Dawkins, please note he frequently consults the President). And in part two, Virus of Faith (man, they don't mess around with these titles), Mr. Dawkins looks at various present-day societies, and how they use religious education to create barriors between themselves and people of other faiths...really interesting stuff.
I think this site put it best...Personally I am of the belief that science and God are not mutually exclusive. But perhaps science and religion are.

- I'm sorry...did I hear that correctly? Did Arlen Spector just say impeachment and criminal prosecution?
- The SNL take on Pat Robertson, and why God wrought vengeance on the Dunkin Donuts guy.
- This may be the best re-editing job yet. Check out Seven, the gay love story version.
- Someone's trying the million pixel thing, but with actual blocks, in their own bedroom.
- And did anyone see the the 60 Minutes piece on North Korea? They seem...umm...really, really focused.
