Fell #1

p01.jpg

To continue today's webcomic theme here is another comic that, though not really a webcomic, has just made it's first issue available for free online and it is really worth reading. Fell is written by Warren Ellis and drawn by Ben Templesmith. The actual printed version is only $1.99 (a dollar cheaper than your average comic) and it's a bargain because each issue is packed with a dense self-contained story and some interesting extras about the making of the comic at the end. Click here to read the free online issue and click below to read a synopsis of the story.

Breakfast Links

- Next time you're pissed because your computer crashed before you hit save, think of these guys.
- On Family Guy, the barbershop quartets sing songs about AIDS.
- Will Ferrell would be the worst boss I've ever seen, if I hadn't worked at my last agency.
- And before Hurley hit the island, he was selling overpriced schwag to Larry David.

Weekend Guide

EnglishBeatCover.jpg

- This week, seven young art dealers opened new street-level galleries all on one block of 27th street, creating the Chelsea version of the mini-mall.
- Lucy's escaped from a mental institution, Linus is a Buddhist who smoked his blanket and Schroeder's in the closet. The peanuts characters have aged twenty years in Dog Sees God.
- Obviously, the playoffs continue this weekend. based on last weekend, my picking Washington, Indy, the Pats and Chicago means the other four teams will win.
- And finally, remember the English Beat, well they're playing the Canal Room this weekend. Tonight's sold out but tickets are available for tomorrow.

Everyday is Webcomics Day

2006 is going to be the year of the Webcomic so I thought I might start a new feature here where I highlight some of the more enjoyable webcomics that I come across. If there is any interest in this I will keep it going every week or so.

I want to start with a funny and very heartfelt comic that I found via the great comics blog The Beat this week. It's a semi-autobiographical story called Freddie and Me written and drawn by Mike Dawson about growing up as the biggest fan of Queen and dealing with the devestating death of his idol Freddie Mercury.

freddieandme.jpg

Dawson's childhood resonates with me, having been a classic rock devotee in high school and it seems we grew up surrounded by the same radio stations as on the first page he hilariously references 102.7FM as well as Mr. Leonard of Z100 fame. I think anyone who has had a favorite band that they truly adored will see themselves in this charming story.

Read excerpts at Mike's website, new pages are added every Thursday.

404 Error

Whoops! We're not sure if it was your fault or ours (probably yours, we're good that way) but you've encountered a FATAL ERROR!!! Or at least, a pretty grumpy one.

Specifically the Latvians who run our server are telling us in a weird accent "Smarty error: [in evaluated template line 5]: syntax error: unrecognized tag 'mtfeed' (Smarty_Compiler.class.php, line 580), Comrade!". Ain't life a bitch.

If you want to vent, email our slacker of a webmaster. Otherwise, we'd suggest going back, using search, or clicking around aimlessly on this page like a moron.

Have fun.
