CoverFlow

200512112336
While I'm a complete convert to the world of MP3s and iTunes (having long since digitized all my music) I sometimes yearn back to the days of vinyl, or more specifically, vinyl covers. There was something magical about going to a friend's house and leafing through their albums one at a time to see what gems they had hidden.

If you feel this way too, and you're a Mac user, then you are going to love this. My tip of the hat to Uneasy Silence for pointing out a free piece of software called CoverFlow that pulls all the images from your iTunes music, and displays them as a scrolling set of album covers. It's truly fantastic - I've been playing with it all weekend.

If Apple knows what's good for them, they should snap this up and include it in the next version of Front Row, because this is just the perfect way to browse your music from your armchair.

"Lion" Lacks Bite

"The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" **1/2 (out of four): The C.S. Lewis classic is given a reverent but toothless adaptation along the lines of the first “"Harry Potter" film. Let's hope this would-be franchise matures as well as that one.

“The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”, the latest attempt to bring C.S. Lewis’ beloved Christian allegory to the screen suffers the same fate as the first Harry Potter adaptation - it’s high on reverence but ironically low on magic.

Fanatics

redick-nj.jpg

I went over to the Meadowlands yesterday to watch #1 Duke dismantle #2 Texas, 97-66. Saw a good game and some familiar faces. But the highlights were unquestionably the fans seated around me.

The woman beside me may have known basketball. But what she didn't quite grasp were English idioms. "How you like apples?!" she taunted. "Don't in our houses!" Since we were in the Continental Airlines Arena, 530 miles north of Duke's "house" in Durham, this barb was doubly strange.

A few rows ahead of us, four enthusiastic young men congratulated each other on virtually every possession. With their help, J.J. Redick (above) hit 9 three-pointers. But when things didn't go well, where were these die-hards? To me, if you're going to take all the credit for precise shooting and crisp passing, you deserve to take the hit when your team lapses into a lazy defensive spell.

All in all, a good afternoon. I'm surprised Redick didn't get any Heisman votes.

The Narrator That Ruined Christmas

Speaking of Rankin Bass narrators, how about some classic SNL for this holiday season.

The Confrontation - Part Two

GodzillaWeb.jpg

This Howard Stern - Bill O'Reilly clip is hysterical on multiple levels.

Can we get some YesBut funds together and send O'Reilly some lesbian porn for Christmas? I think it's what Jesus would do.

Scenes from Holiday Town

Soldier1.jpg

The city gets all festive this time of year...Shopping, skating, singing, and the pharmacies stay open longer to sell enough xanex for all the panic attacks. We've got this routine down cold.

Breakfast Links

- How'd you like to see the the animated short that became the Family Guy.
- Kanye West has a very high opinion of himself, and he wants some recognition, now.
- Congress debates indecency on television...even during the fuckin' family hour? Jesus.
- Your waitress wishes you Happy Holidays...you a) don't tip her, b) punch her c) call Bill O'Reilly
- And should people of faith shop at Walmart...even if it means paying more than $1.25 for Crest.

404 Error

Whoops! We're not sure if it was your fault or ours (probably yours, we're good that way) but you've encountered a FATAL ERROR!!! Or at least, a pretty grumpy one.

Specifically the Latvians who run our server are telling us in a weird accent "Smarty error: [in evaluated template line 5]: syntax error: unrecognized tag 'mtfeed' (Smarty_Compiler.class.php, line 580), Comrade!". Ain't life a bitch.

If you want to vent, email our slacker of a webmaster. Otherwise, we'd suggest going back, using search, or clicking around aimlessly on this page like a moron.

Have fun.
