Visited a few galleries this weekend. I mentioned the Deitch Projects Ryan McGinness show last Friday, His paintings are awesome, and he make's a really funny t-shirt every now and then, too.
Also, a very cool show at Luhring Augustine in Chelsea asked ten artists (big ones...think Damian Hirst and Rachel Whiteread) for their take on the game of chess...lots of fun.
(PS: the image above is from the McGinness show at Deitch Projects. Congrats to my sister who bought the pretty blue one on the far wall. Like I said, it's bound to go up in value...trust me.)

McGinness creates an environment filled with wall painting and these two-sided circular discs that reminded me of a cross between street signs and giant lollipops. Kinda like being in a giant, very expensive candy shop, but without tooth decay.Site
Hypnogoogia at Deitch on Wooster

Jim Drain and Ara Peterson transformed Deitch's Wooster Street location into a spinning, psychedelic funhouse. Four huge muticolored spheres, a giant spinning ottoman, and a kaleidescope hallway make this a very fun show. Site
The Art of Chess at Luhring Augustine

Alot of the fun of this show was playing "guess the artist" Some were easy...Damian Hirst continues his fascination with medical supplies and those freaks, the Chapman brothers turned their signature genitalia-mouthed children into knights and pawns. Some weren't...I'd never heard of Matthew Ronay before. Check out the site and see if you can guess who's who. Site

I'm curious about the price range for his stuff. Did you look at the price list?
Yeah, it ranged from $6,500 for the small circular pieces to $12,500 for the giant lollipops. Still reasonable for someone who's gotten as much attention as he has.
