Our own trumpet, that is.
I guess if you're new to this site, you may get the impression that it's some professional organization run by a group of seasoned writers. Uh, no. This site started as a small hobby back in January. We never even knew then if anyone would ever come here, and certainly never thought we'd get the kind of traffic we're getting now. (250,000 visitors last month, on track to double that this month)
Over the last few days, I've noticed a few hits coming in from Technorati. If you don't know, Technorati indexes blogs, and tries to rank them by “authority”, and by tags, or subject matter (“Authority” is calculated by seeing how many other blogs link to us, the more the better). Technorati claims to index over 20 million blogs (wow), so standing out in that crowd is hard. However, if you search for blogs on the tag “entertainment”, I'm very pleased to see that YBNBY comes up at #13
Of course, we'd love to be number one, so anyone out there who keeps their own blog, give us a mention some time. Let's see how badly we can rig the system ;)

The greatest pop culture blog on the planet. OK, 13th best.
Actually, if you search their blog finder for the phrase "pop culture", we come up as #6 on that list.
Once again, showing my talent to be part of something very cool that has no chance of making me any money whatsoever.
But at least it's not costing you anything :)

Much appreciated!
Congrats on the success of the site! Is it built on Movable Type?
Yep. In fact, here's an audioblog we did about it some time ago.

So what's the secret to your success? I've been up since April, and I get 130 to 300 hits per day (the high end, only if I whore myself to Technorati). When did you really start taking off, and what do you think did it for you?
I linked to you yesterday, btw.
Hey Doug, I wish I knew exactly the magic formula. We spend a lot of time tweaking stuff here (I added some very annoying interstitial ads tonight to certain links in an attempt to make up for a bandwidth overages bill we're facing this month).
I've found that regular short posts keep the repeat visitors happy and are easy to write - we aim for 6-7 a day. More than that and it's overwhelming to keep up (endgaget take note)
Longer original content (like the "Where are they now" articles and Jellio's Top Ten pieces) are the ones that get us big surges in traffic that act as "recruitment drives". And the occassional D List celeb interview is the best of all worlds.
And no matter how slutty you feel, whoring yourself out is indeed the best way to get traffic. Plus, I think you'll find that pictures of breasts are a passport to international traffic. (Despite Jellio's accusations that we're veering towards porn, I prefer to think of us as the thinking man's Maxim - or maybe the blue collar Esquire).
On another note - we're always looking for new writers to join our team (we promise fame but no fortune - it's an unpaid gig, as Jellio will tell you) , so if you're a blogger who wants a bigger audience, drop us a line and we'll see if we can work something out.
Hey, way to go people - two days later and we moved up from #13 to #12. See? The power of the collective.
This is Casey Kasem giving you the exclusive rundown, as YesButNoButYes breaks into the top ten technorati entertainment blogs....
