Trackback: The Nonist

200511091609-1
Our semi-regular feature highlighting cool sites that link to us. This time, a shout out to The Nonist, who included a link to our pioneers of striptease article. I spent quite a while looking over their site, and there were some really interesting items I hadn't seen elsewhere - always a good sign for a blog. Also, I loved the design of this one - very eclectic and stylish. One thing that particularly caught my eye were scans from an erotic coloring book.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang Title Sequence

kisskissopening.jpg

I haven't seen this movie yet but this Saul Bass-inspired opening title sequence for Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is pretty sweet. What else would you expect from the people who brought you the Six Feet Under title sequence.

Breakfast Links

- A pretty funny example of SNL ripping off the Family Guy.
- Who knew video of a flatulent preacher could be this funny.
- Just looking at these pictures of the Stratosphere Casino rides makes me naseuous.
- Senator Obama's very cool interview on The Daily Show. (I really like that guy.)
- And tonight on Lost...looks like someone's leaving the island for good.

Bravo Online Poker Tournament

PokerWeb.jpg

I needed to tell this to someone. Last night, I played in one of the first round tournaments in Bravo's online poker tournament. It started with about 1,300 players, each having $1,500 in play money. Two and a half hours later, I was sitting at the final table with over $400,000 in my pretend empire....and ended up eighth out of the 1,300.

At the end, I was betting like a retarded oil tycoon, in part because it was fun, and in part because it was gonna take hours to beat the remaining players, each with their own six figure stack in front of them. Highlights included catching several winning cards on the river, and one hand where I thought I lost about $200M, but didn't realize I had a flush. (I was watching the daily show while I played)

Anyway, the tournament's over, but you can still play at the practice ring tables. So, anyone up for a little lunchtime poker? Say 12:30? We can meet at table 50. We can play some cards and talk about independent films. Sound good?

50 Greatest Independent Films

49b.jpg42b.jpg37b.jpg

This is a fun one...Swingers, Memento, Blair Witch Project, they're all on Empire Online's list of the top fifty indies in movie history. Good choice for number one, too.

Prophetic words

I still can't believe this! All this hype for something so ridiculous! Who cares about an MP3 player?

So goes a prophetic quote from a user over on the Macrumors forum on the day the iPod was announced back in October 2001. Hoo boy, how wrong can a person be.

The YesButNoButYes brand comes to video with the release of Adam Hughes: Anatomy of a Convention Sketch which is released today in iPod-format. The 18 minute video, shot at a New York comic convention last winter, follows Adam as he creates one of his renowned sketches, from initial pencils through to finished inks. Along the way he talks technique, tools and inspiration.

The video costs just 99 cents, and downloading will require bittorrent. This is kind of an experiment on our part to see what happens. let us know what you think.
