Where are they now: Pussy Galore

Andress 257-1
With the search for the new James Bond still ongoing, I've noticed the press continues to open the age old debate about who was the best Bond (Connery, obviously) or sometimes, the best Villain (I'd vote Oddjob). Left out in the cold too often are the Bond Girls - the Pussys, Honeys, Kissys and Plentys. I thought it was about time to redress the balance and ask Bond Girls - where are they now? (Part one - Connery's Chicks.)

Andress 257-2 Andressu155027634
Ursula Andress - Honey Rider (Dr. No)
Ursula's voice was dubbed in the movie, but that didn't stop her from becoming not only the first, but also the most famous Bond girl. Her entrance, walking out of the sea, was recently voted #1 in the top 100 sexiest film moments. Ursula scaled back her film roles after the birth of her son in 1980, and since then has focussed almost exclusively on small roles in European films. Her last main screen role was in one of Matthew Barney's Cremaster cycle Currently living in Rome.

Tatiana Daniela
Daniela Bianchi - Tatiana Romanova (From Russia With Love)
A former Miss Rome and runner up in Miss World 1960, Daniela was a novice actress when she landed the role of Tatiana. She retired from acting a few years later (making her autograph one of the hardest to get for Bond collectors) and married a shipping magnate. Her last screen appearance was in the Bond spoof, OK Connery, starring Sean's brother, Neil Connery.

Shirley1 Shirley2
Shirley Eaton - Jill Masterson (Goldfinger)
Shirley the girl who helps Goldfinger win his Rummy game appears in the movie for less than five minutes of screen time. Yet the image of her gold-painted naked body has become iconic, something which she notoriously recreated for the cover of Life magazine (above) in 1964. Shirley retired from acting to be a full-time mother to her two children in the early 70s. Now a widow, Eaton, 68, currently divides her time between her homes in England and the South of France.

Honor01 Honor02-1
Honor Blackman - Pussy Galore (Goldfiinger)
At 37, Honor was the oldest Bond girl to appear on the screen, yet cannot be forgotten for what is undoubtedly the single best character name in any movie before or since. Honor continues to work today, receiving a British Academy Award in 2000 for The Avengers. She is also involved with “Fair Trade”, which aims to ensure third world producers are treated fairly and can make a living from their work.

Domino1 Domino2
Claudine Auger - Domino (Thunderball)
Beating out Raquel Welch and Faye Dunaway to the role, this former Miss France introduced Bond to the world of watersports with their undersea makeout scene. Since her Bond appearance, Claudine has continued to act in a variety of US and European movies.

Kissy1 Kissy2
Mie Hama - Kissy Suzuki (You Only Live Twice)
Best known to western audiences for her Bond role, Hama was already a well established actress in her native Japan, and has the distinction of the first woman to be pursued on film by the King of Monsters, Godzilla. Rumor has it that when the Bond producers complained she wasn't learning English fast enough, she threatened to commit Hari Kari. Hama also starred in the movie that Woody Allen was to famously dub an reissue as What's Up Tigerlily. Mie went on to host a TV chat show before retiring and becoming an active environmentalist.

Jill1 Jill2
Jill St John - Tiffany Case (Diamonds Are Forever)
Jill's life offscreen is perhaps even more jet-set than the roles she played. Her lovers included Frank Sinatra and Henry Kissinger, and she married four times, most recently to actor Robert Wagner. Eventually tiring of acting, Jill created her own franchises, which included a line of sweaters and wigs - unsurprsingly businesslike for a woman with an IQ of 162. She found a new career later in life as a food writer and TV chef, including a stint on Good Morning, America.

Plenty1 Pleanty2
Lana Wood - Plenty O'Toole (Diamonds Are Forever)
“Hi, I'm Plenty”. “Well, of course you are” - classic Connery! The sister of late actress Natalie Wood (which gives Robert Wagner TWO nuptial connections to this movie), Lana's other most noteworthy role was as Yolanda in the TV movies Captain America & Captain America II.

Lois Lois2
Lois Maxwell - Miss Moneypenny (appeared in every Connery Bond movie)
The rundown of Connery girls wouldn't be complete without Miss Moneypenny, a role Lois played in 14 Bond movies over 23 years. She also managed to get sucked into the above mentioned OK Connery parody too. Man, that sounds like a curious film - if anyone has ever seen it, write and tell us about it. In fact her non-Bond screen credits surprisingly far outnumber her turns as Moneypenny, Lois retired in 1989, and now lives in Fremantle, Australia near her son.

You asked about the Bond parody film OK CONNERY, reguesting to hear from anyone who has seen it.

I've seen it.

It ran once on American network TV in primetime, under the title OPERATION KID BROTHER. Probably the early 70s. Hungry for anything Bond, I sat through it. Connery's brother Neil played the title role, the younger brother of a notorious secret agent. He's drafted into the spying business by the older brother's boss and her secretary....played by Bernard Lee and Lois Maxwell!!! Neil's character is some sort of therapist/mentalist, with the ability to hypnotize people. The babe is played by Daniella Bianchi (FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE) and the villian is Adolpho Celi (THUNDERBALL). Neil has a van dyke beard, making everyone's assertion "he looks just like him!" a bit hard to believe. The plot is very silly, as Italian parodies of that period tended to be. Neil, Daniella and Adolpho all sound like they are dubbed by other actors.... just as Ursula Andress was in DR. NO (Celi's voice in THUNDERBALL was dubbed by another actor, as was Gert Frobe's voice in GOLDFINGER. Re-voicing was a common practice in the Bond films. Ms. Bianchi in FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE was re-voiced by the wonderful British stage actress Barbara Jefford, who once starred in a famous production of MIDSUMMERS' NIGHT DREAM - both on-stage and on film - opposite Diana Rigg),

Don't forget Lana Wood's performance in the immortal "Satan's Mistress" AKA "Demon Rage", where she shows her "assets" many times!

The film "OK Connery" was also released as "Agent Double 007" and was given the treatment it deserved by the geniuses at Mystery Science Theater 3000.
