You may remember the Piano Man that we blogged about before. Today, the BBC ran a news story saying that he had been discharged and had been sent back to his native Germany. BoingBoing even picked up the story of this mysterious virtuoso piano player that had no identity. All very enigmatic and “Twilight Zone”.
Except in it's zeal to maintain the air of mystery, it seems BoingBoing neglected to quote one very important little tidbit that the BBC report also mentioned (my emphasis):
The man was first taken to Medway Maritime Hospital where he drew a picture of a grand piano and was then taken to the hospital chapel. It was reported that health and social workers said they were “stunned” when he proceeded to give them a virtuoso performance. However, newspaper reports now suggest he was only able to play one note continuously.
I don't want to be a party pooper here, but I would also like to point out that my 1 year old son could also be considered a toy xylophone virtuoso with that definition of the word.
UPDATE: The truth will set him free - all a hoax?

Do you think they meant that he could only play one SONG continuously? I mean after all, aren't those trained goats on TV able to play the chorus of Old MacDonald?
Maybe it's both. Maybe all he could play was one piece of music, but that was the theme tune to Eyes Wide Shut, which if memory serves me correctly, was just one damn note played over and over again.
:) ha!
No wonder they shipped him back to Germany. Damn Germans and their "minimalist music"!
scara - i think you're thinking of Tom Cruise's performance - one note over and over.
i just can't comprehend how one note got "reported" as a virtuoso performance.
