Most people when they think of libraries, for some reason don't think of loud rock and roll. Well that's beginning to change in some Detroit area libraries. In an effort to make libraries more cool for teens, a local librarian has started a library tour featuring a band called The High Strung. The band travels to libraries in Michigan and plays free afternoon shows right inside the library.
The reactions are a mixed bag but some kids seem to be into it. Is it making them think of libararies in a new light? Or is it just turning them on to the decadence of rock and roll at an early age? And can The High Strung ever truly make it as a library band?
Actually I think they sound pretty cool. Listen to some of their tunes on their website and listen to the This American Life program about the library tour.
For our Michigan readers, the next show is on Aug 12 at the Auburn Hills Public Library.
