Costco, home of the deep discount and Pringles by the 24 pack. For some reason, my wife calls them “PriceClub”, but there's no denying the power of a place where you can buy in bulk things that you don't really need, so saving even more money in the process. If you're a city dweller, venture to the suburbs, and see how the true American shops.
All of which is the best pre-amble I could think of to lead into one of the most bizarre online shopping offers I've ever seen. When you first look at this, you might think it's a hoax, but be assured it's real. Because, nestled on the costco.com website in the section entitled “Gadgets, Gifts and Art”, between 24 packs of Crayola Crayons and “jewelry under $350” is this Original Pablo Picasso drawing for $130,000. What's more, it's certified genuine by Picasso's daughter, Mayo.
What, I wonder, went through the mind of the Picasso estate on this one? “Hmmm, we could use Sotheby's, or Christies, or maybe even Butterfields, or - wait - how about Priceclub?”
