An interesting essay by the Director of the American Council of Science and Health about continuity in the vast sci-fi universes of Star Wars, Star Trek, and DC Comics.
As a writer/editor at the American Council on Science and Health, I often criticize “crank” scientists who cling to a faltering theory long after it has become plain to all sane observers that the pet idea just doesn’t hold together logically. They are pathetic, quixotic figures. We science fiction fans are not so different, though, when we struggle to rationalize away the contradictions in our favorite fictional universes.
Unfortunately it's written before the author got to see ROTS so we do not get to read how his continuity fears have been addressed by that film or how new ones have most likely been created.

There's a Crisis occuring in the YBNBY timestream. My post about continuity has an un-identical alternate that I can't seem to correct. Oh the cruel irony!
