Master of his Eminent Domain

Wakeup

Logan Darrow Clements has lodged an application to take over the home of Supreme Court Justice David Soulter by Eminent Domain. Soulter was one of the Justices who supported the decision earlier in the week that allows local governments the right of compulsory purchase over a property if it is deemed in the “public interest”.

The proposed development, called “The Lost Liberty Hotel” will feature the “Just Desserts Café” and include a museum, open to the public, featuring a permanent exhibit on the loss of freedom in America. Instead of a Gideon's Bible each guest will receive a free copy of Ayn Rand's novel “Atlas Shrugged.”

Clements indicated that the hotel must be built on this particular piece of land because it is a unique site being the home of someone largely responsible for destroying property rights for all Americans.

Porn Creep

2005 05 16 Marceau-1

Maybe it's the emergence of the blogosphere detailing every single move a celebrity makes, or maybe just the current zeitgeist, but does anyone get the idea that porn is becoming the new way to celebrity? Forget Jenna Jameson crossing over to the mainstream - we're talking some major stars flaunting their wares.

And - could there really be an Elizabeth Hurley sex tape coming?

Paris Hilton has a lot to answer for...

I'd like to teach the world to... chill???

hilltop.jpg

Coca Colas latest spot ressurects 2 things. One of their most memorable spots of all times, and G. Love.

I think they could have done better and gotten a lot more mileage out of such a classic spot.

The site for the spot allows you to indicate how "chill" you feel and see the level of "chill" around the world. Anyone remember the JWT Anxiety Index???

Google Earth now available

Googleearth

I've just spent 30 minutes playing with Google Earth, and it has simply blown me away. Just an incredible mixture of search, maps, and satellite photos. Being able to chart a journey across a landscape with a 3D perspective is an amazing experience. Unfortunately, if you are on a Mac, you're shit out of luck for now, but if you have a PC, go download the free software now. Then go for a little sightseeing. Make sure you turn on the 3D terrain and Buildings.

Today's History Lesson

harding.jpg

Did you know Warren G. Harding, America's 29th President, might have been a member of the Ku Klux Klan? According to Freakonomics (a fascinating book I just started reading), he took his Klan oath in the White House Green Room.

According to a Harding historian (imagine being a Harding historian?), this is all lies.

I'm sure this will generate passionate debate between loyal Harding apologists and the smug anti-Warren G. crowd.

KC Armstrong Interview - Part Two

[Did you miss Part One? Don't forget to check out KC's DVD, Die Laughing.]

Today we'll cover some of KC's favorite moments from the show. Come back tomorrow for answers to questions you're probably not asking, but have to admit you're curious about -- why isn't KC on the show anymore, and what does he think of Howard?

Hell's Kitchen - Promoting Weight Loss?

I too love Hell's Kitchen but as I watched it last night there was something odd that stood out at least to me.

Gordon Ramsey was berating overweight contestant Jimmy on his performance during dinner service and at the moment I thought went too far when he snapped at him "Lose some weight!" It was much too personal of a put down, even for Ramsey. Then the show immediately goes to a commercial and the first ad is for a weight loss product (I believe Slim Fast?) With so much ridiculous ad placement within shows like The Apprentice, am I being unreasonable in suggesting that Slim Fast (if that was the correct product I'm remembering) scripted this insult and the resulting segue to it's ad?

Ramsey also used the same exact put down to a customer later in the show, though that time there was no corresponding commercial. Say it once and it could be a coincidence, say it twice and it could be branding.

There's a new Doctor in the house

Hells Logos6

For those of you not watching Hell's Kitchen on Fox on Monday nights, please try and catch it - compelling viewing.

For those that ARE watching it and saw tonight's episode - was that a ballsy strategy play by Michael or what? Incredible. In one shining moment he vaulted himself into the illustrious company of Survivor's Richard Hatch and Big Brother's Evil Dr Will. Those guys just never saw it coming. Sweeeeet!.

404 Error

Whoops! We're not sure if it was your fault or ours (probably yours, we're good that way) but you've encountered a FATAL ERROR!!! Or at least, a pretty grumpy one.

Specifically the Latvians who run our server are telling us in a weird accent "Smarty error: [in evaluated template line 5]: syntax error: unrecognized tag 'mtfeed' (Smarty_Compiler.class.php, line 580), Comrade!". Ain't life a bitch.

If you want to vent, email our slacker of a webmaster. Otherwise, we'd suggest going back, using search, or clicking around aimlessly on this page like a moron.

Have fun.
