How's this for hype.

According to an interesting article in Salon, jumping on couches and putting on your crazy face to promote your new movie might just be normal behavior for an OT-VII level Scientologist which Tom Cruise might have recently become. A couple of high level former Operating Thetans speak anonymously to the online magazine about some of the inner working of the secretive religion.

As I just posted on his new documentary RIZE I thought I would post a link to photographer David Lachapelle's site.

The new documentary by photographey r Davil Lachapelle, RIZE tells the story of a street dance phenomenon from the rough streets of South Los Angeles -- krumping.
Check the video on NPRs story on the film, its fantastic.
RIZE Soundtrack, dope.

The in-laws dropped off a few People mags over the weekend. The MailBag section was again overflowing with head-scratching letters. Amazing praise of the runaway bride is this week's big winner. But there's also evidence that Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are fooling some of the people some of the time.
"From your well-researched cover story about Jennifer Wilbanks, it's clear she was trying to put a finger on her feelings and communicate them with those around her. But nobody was paying attention. Jennifer's not a nut; she's a hero."

"I don't understand why people feel Tom and Katie aren't genuine. You can't fake being that happy; it's infectious. We should all be so lucky!"
Tamara
Plainfield, Connecticut
"It's odd that skeptics doubt Tom and Katie's relationship as being real. Good for them if they found something special."
Jeanie
Steger, Illinois
"I read your article about the Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes love tryst and there's no doubt this is for real. Tom has always been honest and forthright. He's a man of strong personal integrity and conviction. It's no wonder Katie loves him."

Don't Click It is an experimental website that explores the concept of a non-clickable interface.
And goddam, if it isn't annoying.
The Cloudharp Project literally creates music from the clouds.
The Cloud Harp is a meteo-electronic installation that converts real-time, thanks to an infra-red laser beam and a telescope sharing the same optics, the height, density and structure of clouds into sounds and musical sequences. The melodies and sounds are determined by factors such as cloud height, density, structure, luminosity, and meteorological conditions. Each cloudscape produces a particular kind of sequence.
No idea what the actual music sounds like, but the concept is pretty ethereal.
So what do you do if you're stuck in Russia without access to the latest DJ mixing equipment? Simple - invent a deck that allows you to mix from two cassette tapes.

As reported, today we begin our three-part series - the KC Armstrong interview.
For those not familiar with the former Howard Stern show regular, read this. And for the Stern fans, you know what we really wanted to find out...
Today we ask what KC's up to these days, including his stand-up and his new dvd - Die Laughing. In part two we hear some memories from the show. And in the final chapter - Why did KC leave the show. Enjoy!

Proving once again that I do go to some of the events I list in the weekend guide, I took the L to Brooklyn to see the Renegade Craft Fair.
Two thoughts...1) This craft thing is big. There were thousands of people. 2) Something like 75% of the chicks in Brooklyn have tattoos.

Yesterday in the Times, there was a story about a legendary Poker player named Stu "The Kid" Ungar, the youngest player ever to win back-to-back World Series of Poker tournaments. I'd never heard of him, but his story is amazing, and really sad at the same time.
Stu Ungar started out playing gin, and quickly became so good he couldn't find anyone to play, so he switched over to poker. He won his first WSOP tournament at the age of 27, and in his lifetime, went on to win, and eventually lose 30 million dollars. His greatest accomplishment seems to have been when he came back to the game in 1997 to win the million dollar top prize at that year's world series. Apparently, the money was gone within four months. And later that year, he was found dead in a motel room from an apparent drug overdose. Seems Stuey was a serious coke addict, so much so that at his '97 comeback, he wore blue shades to hide the fact that his nostrils had collapsed (holy s---).
Stu's life was the subject of a 2003 movie starring Michael Imperioli, and another one may be on the way. Check out the trailer. There's a scene of Stu playing gin, and guessing all seven cards his opponent (Mr. Miyagi) is holding. They say he was a genius...genius has it's good points and bad.
