Last year, JibJab scored a huge hit with "This Land!", one of the greatest viral videos we've seen. Passed around by Democrats and Republicans alike, "This Land!" skewered both President Bush and Senator Kerry and put JibJab atop the list of best viral content creators.
Kudos to them for cashing in. Well deserved. However, their latest piece proves just how hard it is to create good paid viral stuff. Watch this JibJab piece, which can be found on the Budweiser website (you have to enter your birthdate, then click on "Roll Out the Barrel.")
None of the irreverence of "This Land!" Just a straight-forward ad I'd never consider forwarding to anyone. Well, except all the loyal YesButNoButYes readers. But I'm doing this in an informative way, not a "hey, look at this cool new thing I found!" way.
Anyway, this is another example of how "lightning-in-a-bottle" this whole viral video thing can be. Or maybe the bar is set too high. If I saw this on TV, I wouldn't have a problem with it as a TV ad. I'd better post before I talk myself into liking it.

I couldn't agree more, it's awful, which is surprising from Bud, the brand behind some of the best spots ever.
Haven't watched it but it's a shame that the Jib Jab folks haven't been able to make lightning strike twice. Even the next political video they did after that brilliant original was kind of lacking.
