And this is going to be a much shorter post than it should be, Because the sad awful truth is that, of the 80 or so entries into the competition, at least half are - 24 hours in - not even up yet. And this is the sad foppery of the world, that web developers can't keep a deadline even if their prize depends upon it.
So what of the rest? Unfortunately, mostly crap, crap, crap. I understand not every entry can be genius, but believe me when I tell you that most are not even worth the effort of a single click. Which is a shame because the competition itself is a brilliant idea. Rest assured, next year YBNBY will enter (we didn't find out about it until too late) and wipe the floor with these pansies. But until there, here's a brief rundown of the best of the rest:
Scavenger - an online scavenger hunt where you can either set, or solve a challenge. One of the few entrants that actually put some thought into functionality rather than just a gag
Email God - I prayed that next year the entrants would try harder or burn in hell.
Blogstartheater - actually we featured this one a week or so ago, so aren't we the hip happening blogsters
60 Second Theater - 60 second videos that tell a story. Never has 60 seconds felt so long, especially coming on the day when Adrants announces the launch of a new 1-second advertising format. But I'm featuring it here because if you watch the story about Contagious Media, the guy immediately agrees with me on two points - that most of the entrants are shitty, and that Ringtone Dancer is going to win this thing, Crying While Eating not withstanding.
Autoblogger - a one note gag about automatic blogging that'll make bloggers laugh, if no-one else. But then, if Technorati is to be believed, that's still an audience of over 8 million....
Farting Saucers - this one has fart noises, always good for a laugh.
Trader Hand Signals - this one has breasts.
So where does that leave us? Scaramouch predicts the winner will be Ringtone Dancer, followed closely by Crying While Eating. Blogebrity will be up there, especially in the Technorati category, and parishiltonfilms could be finish strong. Dark horses to watch for are Farting Saucers and Scavenger. Autoblogger, currently in 4th place, will not finish in the top 10. so, it'll be interesting to see how wildly inaccurate I've been come June 9th.
Of course, if any of the other 40 lazy gits get off their ass and actually post their site, things could change.

The ringtone dancer dissapointed only in that he danced to a single tune. It would have been funnier had he been "summoned" by any inane ringtone tune and done different dances. :)
Speaking of one-second ads by the way, did you know that Guniess book of Records did "The worlds shortest ad" in 1993? (view the one second ad here http://ad-rag.com/119305.php )Didn't last long though, the record shortest these days is 1/60 sec for MuchMusic, Canada.
As far as the contagious media showdown contenders go, Crying While Eating and the Ringtone Dancer, the top two entries at this point, are not even funny, nor clever. In my humble opinion, the two hardly warrant a giggle. The RIngtone Dancer isn't even original, and I agree about the songs, they could have at least changed up the music. It would seem to me that the contest is more about how many connection you have to the world of blogs, buddies with high hitting sites than how funny or clever or important the content of the site is. Perhaps that is the point of the game, though. Some of the sites further down the list are better.
