It's a Zeitgeist, man.

Search zeitgeist

Here's something I've been playing with for a few weeks. It's still not completely ready for launch, but I'd thought I'd share it with you all to get comments.

There are two parts to this. The first is a “Search Zeitgeist”. Basically it's a program that sorts through the traffic logs for the last 48 hrs, identifies the major search engines, and lists which keywords were entered to bring them to this site. It then displays the results in graphical form - the more often a phrase occurs, the larger the font.

So in the snapshot above, the most popular search terms to bring people here were “gary brolsma” and “filativa”. The live version can be found by clicking here.

Below it, you can find a “keyword zeitgeist” This is my attempt to get the system to read through the last 48 hours of postings and identify the key phrases. It's still very dumb at the moment, and can't tell a verb from a pronoun (gah!) so that still needs much more work. But the idea is there.

How big is the BK digital budget, anyway???

The latest offering from deal-with-the-devil agency Crispin Porter is Need For Feed, a game that lets you feed your co-workers (literally, by uploading their pix) whack-a-mole style. Via Transbuddha.

Suck on this

Frog

So here's something where my own personal interests and my work life collided in a rare (too rare) fashion.

A few months ago I was visiting one of my favorite blogs, Transbuddha, and was completely engrossed by a short animation they featured called Magical Trevor (which we've since also featured on this site). Trevor has a way of digging deep into your brain and bouncing around for days, and before long I was a confirmed evangelist at the Church of Weebl.

Some time later, I was part of a team at work that were suggesting ideas for Halls Fruit Breezers, one of which was to create something “viral” that would appeal to the college crowd. Magical Trevor immediately came to mind, and with the client's blessing, we contacted Weebl, the creator of Trevor, and worked along with him to create something similar.

Today we launched the result. I have to say, having watched this thing close to 50 times now, I can't judge any more if we did to what we set out to do, but I think we got pretty damn close. Kudos to the whole team who worked on this, and - something pretty unusual - a very cool and trusting client.

And so, without further ado, I give you The Croaky Channel. Pass it on to all your friends.

Mayor Kerrey...Unlikely.

kerreytrial.jpg

Just reported on the Newsday site.

Too bad. On the surface, I liked it alot, as I'm tired of having a mayor whose main agenda is trying to shove the Olympics down our throats.

And while we're on the subject. The city just settled with the Republican convention protestors.

Fox News

Last night's season finale of Arrested Development may have been the series finale as well. So to all of you who haven't been watching, thanks for fucking it up for the rest of us. Meanwhile, According to Jim is still on the air, and the syndication rights have been bought up, too.

Anyone still waiting for the last five episodes of My Big Fat Obnoxious Boss? Anybody? Well, they're available "exclusively" on the Fox website.
